Aharen-san, Anime Recommendation of the Week!

I thought of this anime while working on my “Top 10 Anime of 2022” list. Spoiler alert: it did not make the list but, this anime is still entertaining as hell. So I thought this is a good opportunity to talk about it again. So I decided to make Aharen-san the anime recommendation for this week. I did talk about it a lot when it came out in Spring but this is one of those anime that you can rewatch countless times and still enjoy.
So welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series! This week we are talking about Aharen-san wa Hakararenai! It is a really funny anime and probably one of the best rom-coms from this year. And this year had quite a few good rom-coms. So wishing you a very happy new year and let’s get started!
Introduction
Aharen-san wa Hakakrarenai is based on the manga of the same name by Asato Mizu. The manga started its serialization in January 2017 on Shonen Jump+ and it is still ongoing. The anime came out in the spring of 2022 of course and had a total of 12 episodes. Felix Films were the one who made the anime. I don’t think a second season is confirmed, but I hope it does get one.
Plot
Aharen-san is about.. well, the titular Aharen-san a high schooler who struggles to keep her distance from people. Often ending up getting too close or too far. As you may expect, this presents a lot of problems for her and she doesn’t have any friends because of it. One day she meets our MC, Raido who after a few hiccups, becomes a true friend to her.
The plot is pretty simple as you’d expect from a rom-com. And Aharen-san leans more toward comedy anyway, so it’s not like the plot matters too much. This anime has everything you’d expect from a rom-com with its own kind of twist. It is an entertaining plot though, that is for sure. The characters are the glue that holds this plot together. Because of the quirky characters, the plot feels rather fresh despite having a lot of cliches.
Characters
As I said, characters are an important part of Aharen-san. If this anime had your usual characters, it wouldn’t be half as good as it is. All characters are quirky as hell and have some kind of defining trait to them. The relationship between Reina and Raido is really well done too. They take their time with it and nurture it over time. It is really fun to watch. The side characters once again are really awesome as well.

Animations and Soundtracks
The art style is freaking adorable. The animations themselves are alright, but the art style more than makes up for it. It is a rom-com anyway so not like the technicality of the animations matter much. The soundtracks are alright, the opening and ending themes though are fire. I love both of those songs.
Why should you watch Aharen-san?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Good plot
- Really funny
- Great characters
- Entertaining af

Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Aharen-san is a pretty fun anime and you should check it out. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
