The KonoSuba movie was a smash hit. It introduced us to the whole world of Crimson Demons, their culture, and their chuuni-ness. It also expanded quite a bit on Megumin’s background. So what if that movie was made into a whole spin-off series of its own? Well, that is exactly what An Explosion on this Wonderful World is!
So welcome back to another one of my first impressions articles! Today I am talking about An Explosion on this Wonderful World! The KonoSuba spin-off focusing on Megumin and the Crimson Demons is finally here and let me tell you, it is hilarious as hell. So let’s talk about it today!
What do I think of An Explosion on this Wonderful World so far?
This spin-off series is set before Megumin met Kazuma and the others. Basically, it is set during her school days. The opening moments of the first episode tell us why Megumin is so hung up on Explosion magic and the rest of the episode sees her doing the usual first-day-of-school stuff. Now, while I do miss Kazuma, this spin-off is still hilarious and entertaining af.
The Yunyun being a loner jokes continue, Megumin even gives her a crawfish out of pity at the beginning of the episode. Yes, a freaking crawfish. The little crawfish song Megumin and Komekko sing is really funny and is kind of dark humor too because they’re poor and have no other options for food than crawfish. What are PE classes for? Exercising, right? Well, Crimson Demon PE classes are to tryout possess. Yes, functionality, winning, losing, and strength does not matter. A Crimson Demon must look cool during battle.
Yeah, that is the kind of hilarity we are talking about here. Poor Yunyun ends up without a partner again but hey, something good does happen after that so I guess that makes up for it. The explosion magic at the beginning of the episode looked really good and Takahashi Rie is knocking it out of the freaking part with her voice once again. Truly one of my favorite VAs of all time. The animations and art style look pretty rad as well.
Overall, not at all disappointed by this first episode, It is everything I imagined and more. It was entertaining as hell and my stomach was hurting by the end of the episode. An Explosion on this Wonderful World will be a hilarious series and I really do look forward to the 2nd episode. Let me know what you guys think in the comments though. I will take my leave here. The Demon Slayer episode finally dropped. I will go check that out. See ya!
