So this is the 13th week since we started doing this weekly series and this week again, I have something good for you. The anime we are talking about this week is one of my favorites even though, it may never see a sequel. Well, probably.
You have read the title, this week we are talking about Darwin’s Game. I feel like this doesn’t get enough credit, even though it should so I had to dedicate an article for this anime. Before we begin, remember this is a recommendation and not a review. Hence, I will not be scoring or talking about negative points.
So let’s begin.

Darwin’s Game aired from 4th January to 21st March 2020. It is based on the manga of the same name. It has just 12 episodes as of now and no confirmed sequel. I am still hopeful regarding the sequel of Darwin’s Game because so many anime had their sequel announced so many years later.
It is a game anime but, everything happening in Darwin’s Game is in the real world. It is one of the more unique game anime and easily one of my top 5 in the game genre. Darwin’s Game has a well-balanced plot with a little comedy, lots of action, and good character development.

It revolves around well, a game called….. Darwin’s Game. The protagonist, Kaname is dragged into this game. Darwin’s Game has almost all the features you’d find in a normal battle game but, the battles in Darwin’s Game are real-life deathmatches.
That is as simple as the initial setting of the series gets. Things get really complex in the later arcs, but we have no need to talk about that right now as the anime does not go that far, of course. Now 2 things I really like about Darwin’s Game’s plot are that it has really good world-building, the rules of the game are really clear and there is no shortage of batshit crazy plot twists.

Darwin’s Game preferres the quality over quantity approach when it comes to characters. There are only a few main characters but all of them are well written and are given a rather detailed background. All of the important characters are really well done.
Kaname though, his character development is crazy. He literally goes from a normal high school student to a part dictator by the end of the series. His character development skyrockets in the last few episodes and his character really grows to be something. The way the character development is paced though is really good.

Darwin’s Game animations are just awesome. They are way above average and really well done. I am pretty sure it’s all CGI but seriously, Nexus Studio did a great job. The Soundtracks are really great too including the opening and ending themes.
