Bleach TYBW Part 3 Review - Simply Awesome

Before starting this review, I want to clarify one thing. This review is likely going to be biased as hell. I will try to be as objective as possible, but I can’t make any promises, especially for Bleach. Bleach makes me feel like a kid, hyped and excited for every single moment. So please understand that it will be hard for me to be objective about a show like this. But man, Bleach TYBW Part 3 – The Conflict is finally over, and now I can write my review for it. I wanted to write this review for a while now, but I held out till the finale on purpose.

Welcome back to another anime review. Today, we are talking about Bleach TYBW Part 3—The Conflict! A teaser trailer for Part 4 was also released immediately after the final two episodes of Part 3 aired, and you can check that out here! But let’s get started with the review.

Plot

The anime adaptation largely improved the plot of the manga. So far, no major events have been changed, but there are a ton of minor changes and a lot of new content. The first 6 episodes of Part 3 were almost entirely new content, and the other 8 episodes also had a bunch of new stuff despite following the manga religiously. There have been several rewrites and restructures for the existing content to make the narrative feel more streamlined. There were parts in Part 3 that even kept us manga readers guessing.

Yes, there are a few odd choices here and there, but none of those take away from the narrative. I just consider them odd because I don’t think they needed to move certain scenes. The anime’s original content has been amazing, though. All of the new fights have a case for being the best fights in TYBW. The extended flashback for Ukitake was nice, and there are a lot of other examples of such added context helping. The finale also added a teaser for a critical upcoming plot point.

Characters

The changes to the plot helped Uryu, Yhwach, and Ukitake the most. There are other characters who got a bunch of new scenes, like Shinji and Momo in the finale, but Yhwach pretty much had his whole character redefined in this cour. His character was never this deep in the manga. His motivations are crystal clear, and despite the somewhat sympathetic goals, he is still an absolute monster who does not care about anyone else.

Aside from him, Uryu was amazing throughout the season as well. His “villain arc” is a lot more fleshed out in the anime, thanks to the new fights, than it was in the manga. Again, his decisions make more sense here in the anime. Moving on, we have Ukitake, who got an extended flashback fleshing out his and Shunsui’s friendship. Speaking of, both Shunsui and Mayuri’s flashbacks were handled really well. And of course, the Friend Saga between Haslwalth and Bazz B was another great character moment for the two. Renji had a great fight with Uryu, too.

Animations

Man, I wish the animations for TYBW Part 3 were more consistent; this is going to be one sore spot in this review. The animations are weirdly inconsistent. This issue has been persistent since Part 1, where we have at least 2 episodes in every part that have lackluster animations. Pernida straight up looked goofy in certain shots compared to the manga, but then, just the next episode, Kyoraku’s Bankai looked breathtaking. When the animations are bad, the show doesn’t look horrible, but I would’ve appreciated more consistency.

The show still looked great overall, though. I really liked the colors in this part, specifically because everything stands out a lot more against the dark background of the location. As for the soundtracks, Shiro Sagisu can do no wrong; the BGMs were great, and the opening theme and ending themes were awesome as well. The visuals for both the opening and ending themes are great, too.
