Bungou Stray Dogs S4 – First Impressions!

This is such a long-awaited sequel for me. I didn’t actually know that the manga continued after season 3. I assumed that the story ended there but soon after that, I saw that the manga was still ongoing. That made me really happy because Bungou Stray Dogs S4 was actually possible and not copium. And here we are now.

So welcome back to another one of my “First Impressions” articles, today I am talking about Bungou Stray Dogs S4. One of the most anticipated sequels for me. I am a little late for this party as episode 2 is already out but I digress. The show starts off with such a bang too. There’s a lot to discuss here so let’s get into it!

What do I think of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 so far?

Of course, everything I say here is based on episodes 1 and 2. Episode 3 is not out yet at the time of writing. My views may or may not change later. With that said, let’s get into it. As typical of Bungou Stray Dogs, this season too starts off with a flashback. It is an unexpected flashback this time however, the flashback we see shows us how Fukuzawa met Rampo and convinced him to help. I love the art style they are using for this flashback, they greyed out most things but still kept a slight amount of color for emphasis.

The plot, well there are no special powers involved yet but the plot so far has been really good. It was a plain and simple murder mystery but its execution was really well handled. Rampo was an excellent character as is, but this background they gave him, kicked him up a notch in my eyes for sure. Also, I am glad to learn more about Fukuzawa’s past too, his past is not too extensively explored compared to someone like Dazai.

I don’t know what the main plot of Bungou Stray Dogs S4 will be, but judging from the flashback, I am sure it will be something involving Rampo this time. The opening theme was awesome once again, BSD never disappoints with the opening themes for sure. They used the whole grey flashback art style for it too. I wonder if the animation of the opening will change once the main arc starts.

Conclusion

So based on just the first 2 episodes, Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 gets an easy 9/10. That is just my opinion of course. You may not like the series or something. But the execution of this whole flashback sequence really hit the spot for me. I am curious to see how the main part of the arc will progress after this flashback.
