And I really do love this manga Hopefully with the manga back, we will get a new anime season soon as well~
Jokes aside welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series! Today we are taking a look at The Case Study of Vanitas or Vanitas no Karte. One of my personal favorite vampire animes out there because it is so much different from the norm. So let’s talk about it.
Introduction
The Case Study of Vanitas is written and illustrated by Mochizuki Jun. It had been serialized in the Gangan Joker magazine since December 2015. It had been on a hiatus for 11 months, I think. But it will finally be back to regular serialization soon. The manga also has 2 seasons of pretty good anime adaptations; you can check that out if you want to as well.
Plot
All vampires are born under a blood-red moon. But, there was one born under a blue moon and as such, he was treated as an outcast all of his life by the other vampires. His hatred led him to write the true name of all vampires in a book, granting him power over them. The story follows a human ‘doctor’, Vanitas who is the vessel of the vampire of the blue moon.
The Case Study of Vanitas has an amazing plot. The world-building, the backstories, and the plot twists are so amazingly well done. They also did a good job of showcasing different families and their histories together in the series. I also love how the series does not hold back in showing the gray side of things between the humans and the vampires. I really cannot have enough of this plot and setting.
Characters
Once again, The Case Study of Vanitas has some really good characters. As I said earlier, we get a lot of backstories and as such, we get a lot of character development too. Noe and Vanitas being the main duo get the most development but the series is still full of memorable characters like Chloe, Jeanne, Roland, August, etc.
Art
I love the art style of this series. I love the medieval European setting, I love the character designs and the action scenes look pretty amazing too. Whenever Vanitas opens his book, it is a treat for the eyes because you know the scene is going to look awesome.
Why should you read The Case Study of Vanitas?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Great plot
- Awesome world-building
- Good characters
- Cool art style
Conclusion
That is all for now. If you cannot tell already, I am a huge fan of the series and I am really glad that is back from hiatus. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
