Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser New Anime Announced!

Code Geass just dropped a massive 20th Anniversary event, and honestly? They announced way more than I expected.
Among the new projects, anime, manga collabs, reruns, the one that instantly grabbed my attention is the brand-new series: Aspar the Star Chaser.
Roze of the Recapture already hinted that the post-Resurrection universe isn’t going anywhere, and this event basically confirms it.

Well, isn’t this a surprise? Okay, I suppose not so much of a surprise. I think Roze of the Recapture made it pretty clear that they’ll continue making more Code Geass spin-offs set after the Resurrection movie. But recently, we had an event for Code Geass’ 20th Anniversary, and they announced a bunch of new projects. And while the Gundam collab manga is cool and all, the one that interests me the most at the moment is the new anime: Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser.

I will go over all the announcements made in the 20th anniversary event, but the rest of the article will be primarily focused on Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser. So welcome back to another news article, and let’s talk about the Code Geass 20th Anniversary!

What was announced during the 20th anniversary event?

So the Code Geass 20th anniversary event just dropped a whole bunch of announcements. We’re getting a brand-new anime, a new manga collab with Gundam Wing, and even a TV broadcast of Roze of the Recapture coming in July 2026. Also, all 13 Code Geass films are returning to Japanese theatres, screening every first and third Tuesday and Thursday from January 6 to June 25. Of course, most of this only applies if you live in Japan. Otherwise, TV broadcasts or theatre reruns have nothing to do with us. But I am happy for the Japanese fans.

Which brings me to the new anime. Hoshi Oi no Aspar, or Aspar the Star Chaser, will be directed by Kazuya Nomura. He is the director of both seasons of Moriarty the Patriot. Which already fills the anime with promise. And since this is Code Geass, it goes without saying that Sunrise will be returning to animate it. No info on release windows or anything like that just yet. Of course, I will keep you posted about that.

Oh, I almost forgot, Takane Lui from Hololive is now the new series ambassador of Code Geass. Pretty cool.

My Thoughts

I’ll be honest, out of everything announced for the 20th anniversary, Aspar the Star Chaser is the only project that genuinely has my attention. And I’m cautiously optimistic about it. On one hand, having Kazuya Nomura, the director of Moriarty the Patriot, attached is a huge confidence booster. That series had sharp direction, great pacing, and a strong grasp of character tension, all of which would fit beautifully with a Code Geass story.

But at the same time, Roze of the Recapture is still fresh in my mind. It was… decent. Not bad by any means, but definitely something that could’ve been A LOT better. And because of that, I can’t help but keep my expectations balanced. I’m excited, but not setting myself up for disappointment either.
