Yes, you read the title right. Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 has just been announced, and between this and the Gate continuation, we’re in for a treat. Crazy how the Summer season hasn’t even properly started yet, and I already have so many good news stories to cover. Where was all this last season when I was going through a serious content drought lmao? But yeah, it goes without saying that a sequel to Edgerunners is like a dream come true. There’s still so much to be explored in Night City.

So welcome back to another news article, and today we are talking about the recently announced Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2. And by the way, if you have not watched Season 1 yet, go watch it now, and don’t worry, this article will be completely spoiler-free. Let’s get started.

About Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2

The anime is officially titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II” and just like Season 1, Season 2 will also have 10 episodes. Though we don’t have a release window or something for it yet, Trigger will be returning to animate Season 2 as well. If you are wondering, all this awesome new news is coming from Anime Expo. Edgerunners had a panel at Anime Expo, and they also revealed a teaser visual for Season 2, along with announcing the main staff.

And speaking of, let’s talk about the main staff. Kai Ikarashi will be directing the series, Masahiko Ootsuka is returning to pen the script, and Ichigo Kanno will be doing the character designs. Imaishi Hiroyuki is not returning to direct Season 2, which is pretty interesting. And yeah, we have a new character designer as well. But I trust Trigger. I know they will cook a Michelin-star meal just like Season 1.

My Thoughts

So apparently, certain people in the EU already knew that Edgerunners Season 2 was happening for a few months. Now I can’t verify this information since I am not from the EU. But if you are EU, could you please fact-check that info for me lol? But questionable info aside, I have a gut feeling that Season 2 of Edgerunners will focus on a different set of characters than Season 1.

It only makes sense, in my opinion. Season 1 was a self-contained story, and each character arc in Season 1 was concluded beautifully. It wouldn’t make sense to make a whole new season around those same characters. So I think Season 2 will focus on new characters, with Season 1 characters being reserved for cameo roles. Either way, it goes without saying that this announcement makes me incredibly happy, and guess what? This is just one of the many cool announcements to come from Anime Expo 2025 lol.
