Cyberpunk is Getting an Anime?!

I was aware Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a thing, to be honest. I saw its announcement and was highly skeptical and disinterested in it back then. Now that they have put out a trailer for it, I am more interested in it. Now, I know CDPR has been working their ass off to make Cyberpunk 2077 better and the game is in a much better condition now. But, it is hard to get that bad taste out of the mouth if something has such a bad first impression.

Well anyway, we are not here to talk about the game today. We are here to talk about the anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. I just said it but I will say it again, the trailer really changed my mind about this anime. Most of my skepticism about it is gone but not all. We’ll talk about that later, let’s get over what we know about the anime first.

What do we know about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is basically like a collab between CDPR and the animation studio, Trigger. Trigger is famous for stuff like Darling in the Franxxx, Kill la Kill, Gridman, etc. So it is the perfect studio to make this anime. On Tuesday (2nd August), CDPR Japan’s Twitter revealed the 2nd key visual for the anime and hooked us up with a really good trailer, to be honest.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has a pretty good staff. Most importantly we have Hiroyuki Imaishi, the same director as Gurren Lagann. He is a great pick to head this anime. Franz Ferdinand (Paradise Kiss), is going to perform the opening theme for the anime “This Fffire”. You can check out the trailer here, do keep in mind it is age restricted in some regions. But, I’ll say it once again, it is a good trailer.

Oh and I forgot to mention, the anime comes out in September.

Expectations

I am not really sure how to feel about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. On one hand, I really get excited seeing the good staff members they have and this awesome trailer they put out. On the other hand, I see that Netflix tag, and that makes me nervous. You know Netflix’s track record with anime, you know how many anime those guys have ruined. So that Netflix tag really bugs me out.

If I put aside the Netflix tag, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this anime. I really hope that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners turns out to be as good as the trailer looks. I mean, look at that absolutely amazing environment design and character design in the trailer! And then pair that with Trigger’s smooth animations and CDPR’s writing. This anime has so much potential, I just hope it is as good as it looks and does not end up like the game.

But, that’s me; let me know whatΒ youΒ guys think in the comments below. I will take my leave here, I have to prepare for the other articles of the week and play some Oblivion. See ya!!
