Dandadan’s BUMBEST Arc Yet

• We are now in what is arguably the worst arc in Dandadan’s run, and the series that once made even its dumbest plot devices feel charming has somehow managed to produce something that feels genuinely frustrating to read.
• This isn’t just bad writing, it feels like bad faith writing, the kind that gives off massive Rent a Girlfriend energy, and that is not a comparison you ever want to be making about a manga you love.

I will never understand why the writing quality in good mangas suddenly falls off a cliff whenever they get close to their conclusions. This happened with Oshi no Ko, My Hero Academia, JJK, and heck, even Chainsaw Man couldn’t escape this fate to an extent. And now, we have the latest addition with Dandadan coming in with its worst arc yet. Yeah, Dandadan, a manga that is usually very good about making plot contrivances seem humorous because they just fit the tone of the story that well.

So uh, yeah, of course, there will be major spoilers ahead. I only recommend continuing if you’ve caught up with the manga or don’t care and just want to see how dumb things get. Welcome to another article, and today we are talking about the WORST arc yet in Dandadan. So let’s get started

So uh… what the hell happened?

In the Danmara arc, around chapter 159, Okarun FINALLY confesses his love to Momo. We’ve been waiting for this moment for 150 chapters, by the way. So she basically tells him to do it properly once they’re out of danger, which is fair enough. But then Momo gets shrunk down at the end of the arc, robbing Okarun of the chance to confess again, and well, once the curse on her is broken, she loses all her memories, and all the romantic development we had till this point is GONE. ATOMIZED. ERASED.

In chapter 215, Okarun DOES confess again, but he doesn’t get a proper answer since Momo literally doesn’t remember any of her time with him. Imagine that. Poor Okarun confessed TWICE in the span of 50 chapters. And then on top of that, he is being forced to watch Jiji and Momo have fun without him. Mind you, this has gone on for 20 chapters now, starting with chapter 210. This feels like such unnecessary padding. And it is worse here because, as I said, Dandadan is usually very creative about things like these.

Being unnecessary padding is bad as is, because it always feels like Okarun and Momo are yanked away from each other whenever they get closer. Being another dumb cliche amnesia arc on top of that is also pretty bad. But what makes all this worse is that it feels like it’s being done in bad faith. I get massive Rent a Girlfriend energy from this whole thing, and I despise it. It is drama for drama’s sake. I can’t man… I hate this so much.

Also, the manga is NOT going on a hiatus. That was a lie. We will get chapter 231 on April 7th as scheduled, not 5th May.
