Dark Gathering, Put This on Your Radar!

So I found out about this manga rather recently when I was looking for news to cover as always. And I have to say, it is a fairly unknown/underrated manga. Dark Gathering may not look like it but, the series is pretty spooky. That is something I can’t say for a lot of “horror” anime/mangas. I really do think more people should check this series out.

Well, all that aside though, Dark Gathering is soon getting an anime adaptation and I hope that it helps in increasing this series’ audience. I will start with a brief introduction to the series and then we’ll get into the news regarding the adaptation. Feel free to skip to the news section if you want to though.

Introduction

Dark Gathering is a manga written and illustrated by Kondou Kenichi. It is a supernatural horror manga and it has a pretty interesting plot. It started its serialization in Jump SQ on 4th March 2019. The manga follows Keitarou a college freshman who somehow got a “spiritual injury” leading ghosts to be attracted to him. So wanting to avoid ghosts, he stops leaving his house and becomes a shut-in. His childhood friend, Eiko though wanting to help him, asks him to tutor her cousin Yayoi. She has a similar condition to Keitarou but she wants to meet spirits instead of avoiding them. The story unfolds as Keitarou is dragged along with Eiko and Yayoi.

What do we know about the anime?

Dark Gathering will be coming out in the summer of 2023. OLM studios will make the anime. The anime will be directed by Ikehara Hiroshi. He has notably worked on Black Bullet and Accel World with some episode direction contributions in FMA Brotherhood and Gurren Lagann. Recently, we got a new key visual and the first promo of the anime, which you can check out right here.

Now interestingly, the music director for Dark Gathering is Kohta Yamamoto. He is the guy who made the music for the recent seasons of AoT. And while he is not Sawano, he is no slouch either. Just go listen to Ashes on the Fire by him. So OLM has some really good talent behind this anime.

Expectations

I haven’t caught up with the manga yet since I just started reading but, I am really enjoying Dark Gathering so far. The manga is really interesting and it’s something we don’t get to see very often. I really look forward to seeing the anime. The PV looks really good and I hope that OLM maintains the same quality in the actual release as well. I guess I really shouldn’t be that worried since the anime has some pretty good staff working on it.
