Don’t Miss These Anime in the Fall 2023 Season!

Key takeaways from “Don’t Miss These anime in Fall 2023”:

  • I’ve found some lesser-known anime for the upcoming Fall 2023 season that caught my eye, including unique stories like “The Apothecary Diaries” and “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.”
  • I’m really looking forward to sequels like “Faraway Paladin Season 2” and “Mahoutsukai no Yome Season 2 Part 2.” I hope these seasons build upon the strong narratives of their predecessors.
  • As a fan of romantic comedies, I’m interested in “Our Dating Story.” While familiar, well-executed romance tropes can lead to series like “Horimiya” and “Your Lie in April,” and I’m hoping for something similar here.

We all know that the next season is full of big sequels. Goblin Slayer, The Eminence in Shadow, Shield Hero, Dr. Stone, etc. are all getting sequels next season. Yeah, Fall 2023 is going to be a really big season when it comes to anime. Not only anime, but the fall season also includes some incredible games. However, we are not here to discuss those.

But there are some really good new/smaller sequels coming out too which are bound to get buried beneath this storm of big sequels. So I decided to take a look at some of them today. I will try to include as many non-sequels as possible on this list but there are 2 sequels I am sure people will miss. So I wanted to talk about those as well.

And lastly, these are just anime that caught my eye. If there are some you’d like to me watch out for, feel free to let me know. With that said though, welcome another anime Fall 2023 article. Today we will be taking a look at some of the easier-to-miss anime in the season. So let’s get started,

The Apothecary Diaries

So this anime by OLM Studios and Toho Animations caught my eye because of its unique visuals. The story looks pretty interesting too. The anime is set in ancient China, a girl named Maomao had been kidnapped and forced to work in the palace of the emperor. But she is the optimistic kind and just decides to peacefully live out her years of service doing whatever is asked of her. One day, the emperor’s twin kids fall ill.

Maomao uses her knowledge as a doctor she gained while growing up in a red-light area to cure the kids. She tries to keep it a secret but is soon found out and is tasked with figuring out different medical mysteries. As I said, the setting and the plot are pretty unique and interesting. his combined with the colorful visuals will likely make for an entertaining show.

Faraway Paladin Season 2

The first of the lesser-known sequels I plan on including on this list. I included this because I am pretty sure many people have still not watched the awesome first season of this anime. Faraway Paladin’s first season’s initial six episodes provide a remarkable initiation to the world, it is one of the best introduction arcs ever. Everything from the characters to the plot to the pacing of those episodes is incredible.

That is why I want people to check out season 1. And I hope that season 2 at least tries to come close to that greatness. I know it will be hard to top but I want season 2 to at least try to top the introduction arc. And yeah, I am really excited about it.

Our Dating Story

After My Happy Marriage, we have another show with a seemingly cringeworthy name. Now while I know for a fact that this show won’t be as full of surprises as My Happy Marriage, I know it will probably be decent. You know I am a sucker for rom-coms and this looks like a pretty good one. The MC is tasked with confessing to the school idol, Runa as a part of a punishment game. Runa accepts saying that “Err, I’m free now…”. And so they begin going out together and despite their differences, they grow closer over time.

I won’t pretend that this troupe hasn’t been done before but it is a troupe I personally like. Because if you can deliver on that troupe you end up with stuff like Horimiya and Your Lie in April. So Our Dating story can even deliver a fun rendition of that troupe, it will be more than enough for me.

Mahoutsukai no Yome Season 2 Part 2

Not as unknown as Faraway Paladin but this series also deserves its respects. The Ancient Magus’ Bride or Mahoutsukai no Yome has had a really strong 2nd season so far. And the first half ended on a pretty big cliffhanger. So I have been eagerly waiting for the 2nd half of the season. If you haven’t already, please do yourself a favor and go catch up with this anime. This series has some incredible world-building with some really bleak stories.

I know the story won’t be for everyone but if a dark story filled with twists and some messed up stuff tickle your fancy, this is the series for you. There aren’t a lot of other anime that top The Ancient Magus’ Bride when it comes to dark fantasy.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

I have a feeling that this anime will be really good. Why? Well, because instead of showing a hero’s party defeat the demon kind, it takes place years after that has happened. Our MC is an elf who was once a member of the hero’s party that took down the demon king. Since elves have longer life spans than humans, Frieren has outlived all of her companions now. Before his death, one of her late friends sends his apprentice to Frieren to learn from her.

That is a really cool concept. As is an introspective of what we call the “hero’s journey”. If handled well, this concept has a lot of potential and could deliver a really strong plot. We will get to see how things have changed after the demon king’s defeat and this opens up a lot of possibilities for storytelling. I am really excited about this anime because it has so much potential to be awesome.

That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Fall 2023 looks like a really strong season for anime. This year overall was pretty good for anime and the fall 2023 season is a perfect send-off to that. Really curious to see what I will think of all these anime 4 months later when all 12-13 of their episodes have aired. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
