Introduction

Erased or Boku Dake Inai Machi is based on the manga of the same name by Sanbe Kei. The manga was serialized in the Young Ace Magazine from June 2012 to November 2016. As for the anime, it is made by A1 Pictures and premiered in the winter season of 2016. It only has 12 episodes and a single season.

Plot

The anime follows 29-year-old Satoru who has the weird ability to go back a few minutes before an accident occurs. He is wrongfully accused of killing his mother. This triggers his ability again but this time, it sends him back 18 years to his childhood. Some stuff happens which leads him to think that protecting his childhood friend, Kayo will be the key to saving his mother in the future. How well does this work out? Well, find out for yourself.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi Review β€” B+ | Draggle's Anime Blog

The story of this anime is really good. It does a poor job at world-building, as Satoru’s ability is never really explained but, that is not what the story is about. This story is an emotional one and world-building is not the point here. But still, the story does have its fair share of plot twists that will always keep you invested. That ending is really good as well. And that villain reveal is just amazing.

Characters

Now, this is where Erased truly shines. The character writing and development in this series are immaculate. Even minor characters like Satoru’s mom and that news reporter from the present day leave a lasting impact on you. Satrou gets a lot of character development throughout the series and his determination to save his mother is quite inspiring. I swear this series makes me want to hug my mom tight.

Animations and Soundtracks

A1 Pictures did a pretty good job on this anime. The animations are pretty good, they won’t blow you away or anything but they get the job done. The art direction is pretty awesome because I think the whole 18-years-ago section looks amazing because of all the snow and it really fits the atmosphere. The soundtracks are pretty good too, the opening theme especially is amazing.
