Fate/strange FAKE Episode 1 is here!

Article at a glance:

  • Fate/strange FAKE Episode 1 excels with impressive soundtracks, unique art style, and solid animations, though not UFOTable level.
  • The episode introduces protagonist Sajou Ayaka, ties to the Einzbern family, and sets the stage for an irregular Holy Grail War.
  • Watching Whispers of the Dawn is essential, as it sets up key events and characters referenced in Episode 1.

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the Fate series. I have even watched some of those obscure anime adaptations like Fate/EXTRA. Bruh, I even played Fate/EXTRA and Fate/EXTRA CCC. That’s how deep I am into this. So when I heard that Fate/strange FAKE was getting an anime adaptation, I was excited. strange FAKE has really resonated with fans because of how much it twists the traditional formula of the series without going completely crazy like EXTRA did. I just watched Episode 1 of Fate/strange FAKE and wanted to discuss it.

Oh and please watch the Whispers of the Dawn special before starting episode 1 of Fate/strange FAKE. That special is a prequel to episode 1 and the incidents of the special are frequently referenced throughout episode 1. But yeah, welcome back to another first impressions article and you know what we are talking about. Let’s get started.

What did I think of Fate/strange FAKE Episode 1?

Right off the bat, I have to say I quite like the soundtracks so far. The music quality is immediately noticeable the moment the episode starts. The animations are pretty good too. Of course, they are nowhere near UFOTable standards but that is the gold standard, I don’t expect A1 Pictures to match that. But even then, the animations are really good. And for what it’s worth, the art style is unique too.

Moving on to the content of the episode itself, the episode picks up right after Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s clash in Whispers of the Dawn. We don’t get to see Gilgamesh and Enkidu in this episode, and I am fine with that because Whispers of the Dawn was pretty much about those two. Episode 1 introduces us to our “protagonist” Sajou Ayaka. She’s already an interesting character because of her connections to the Einsbern family. Very interested in seeing how her character arc goes.

Oh yeah, I like how they referenced that iconic scene from Fate/Stay Night but now the genders are reversed as the master is female and Saber is male. Saber even used the same iconic line. Overall though, episode 1 did a fantastic job of setting up the upcoming plot and establishing the relevant players in this iterations of the Holy Grail War. As El-Meloi II said in this episode, this iteration of the Holy Grail War is filled with irregularities. You could say that it is strange.

That is all for now

So yeah, I look forward to seeing more Fate/strange FAKE, Whispers of Dawn and Episode 1 have both been great showings so far. Let’s see how things progress from here on. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya
