Fool Night Anime Coming to Netflix in 2026

The much-anticipated Fool Night anime has been officially announced and will premiere on Netflix later this year. This adaptation brings to life the unique manga by Kasumi Yasuda, which has been serialized since 2020.

Produced jointly by Sunrise and SHAFT, the series features Atsushi Yukawa, known for his work on Suzume, as director. Fans can also look forward to a strong creative team including Jin Tanaka handling series composition, and Robert Sato on character design.

Set in a bleak future, Fool Night presents a world trapped under endless winter nights. Humanity faces an oxygen shortage because most plant life has vanished. To survive, people rely on a technology called Transfloration that transforms those near death into plants, offering a glimmer of hope in a desperate age.

The story follows Toshiro Kamiya, a young man burdened by poverty and his mentally ill mother’s care. Despite harsh realities, Toshiro takes a courageous step by choosing to become a “Spiriflor,” embracing this strange new form as part of humanity’s survival.

With 12 volumes released by January 2026 and English distribution by Viz Media, Fool Night has already gathered attention for its compelling premise. The upcoming anime promises to capture this atmospheric setting through the realistic visuals developed by experts like Ryo Kikuchi and detailed background art directed by Maki Takano.

Voice actors Koki Uchiyama and Minako Kotobuki will bring the leading roles of Toshiro Kamiya and Yomiko Horai to life, adding depth to this intense tale. Fans can get a first look at the series through a recently released teaser trailer and visual.

Fool Night blends sci-fi and drama in a story about survival, hope, and transformation. The series stands out with its inventive concept and strong production team, making it an exciting addition to Netflix’s anime lineup in 2026.
