Frieren Went Hard These Past Few Episodes

Key points for Frieren Beyong Journey’s End Episode 7-8 discussion:

  • The recent episodes of Frieren Beyond Journey’s End took an unexpectedly intense turn, delving into a darker side of the story that caught the audience off guard.
  • Episode 7 and 8 provided significant character depth for Frieren, revealing her strong hatred for demons and showcasing her unmerciful actions in dealing with them. This added a new layer to her previously calm demeanor.
  • The dark undertones in the recent episodes were subtly foreshadowed in earlier parts of the series, particularly in Frieren’s untrusting attitude towards demons. The revelation of her teacher, Flamme, being connected to the city’s barrier adds anticipation for future developments.

Man, I was ready to be depressed and hurt by this anime a lot. Don’t get me wrong, there absolutely were a few moments in this anime that got me real good but these last few episodes have been wild. I did not expect this kind of intensity from Frieren, to be honest. Her character and her original journey suddenly got a lot darker with the added context.

Episodes 7 and 8 were beyond anything I was expecting from this anime I just wanted to talk about them quickly. We are also about a third of the way through the anime, so it is a good time to talk.

So welcome back to another article. I don’t even know what to call this LOL. A third of a season review? Either way, let’s talk about Frieren Beyond Journey’s end today.

What do I think of Frieren Beyond Journey’s End so far?

Spoilers for episodes 7 and 8 inbound, please catch up before reading this.

There was always a bit of a dark undertone to this anime but nothing outright dark like episodes 7 and 8. Our grandma elf recounts an experience of her part with demons. “Monsters” who can speak and understand human language are termed “Demons”. She recounted an experience of hers in which a demon basically used language to gain sympathy from humans only to then kill them later. So even though they may appear “pure-hearted” on the surface, humans are still prey to them.

This proves true as things just start going crazy in episode 8. Frieren’s strong hatred of demons is not something I expected to see. I don’t think I have seen our grandma elfΒ thisΒ angry before. She killed the demon that came to attack her without any mercy, she didn’t even have her staff and yet she made quick work of him. We got a lot of character depth for her because of these incidents. I also like the callback to Qual from previous episodes. And how his spell has now been modified to kill demons instead of humans.

I also like that there were always hints of Frieren’s hatred for demons even in previous episodes. But we thought nothing of it because of the conditions. But episode 7 made it clear just how untrusting of demons she is as she basically tried to kill the “negotiators” as soon as she saw them. And what do you know, what she said turned out to be true in the end. I cannot wait for next week’s episode. Especially because the barrier around the city that the demons want to take down is made by Frieren’s teacher, Flamme.

That is all for now!

Let me know what you guys think in the comments. These two episodes really added a dark edge to the series that I was not expecting to see but then again, pieces of it were always in front of us. We just didn’t realize it. This anime just went up to a 9/10 in my opinion. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
