Go Nagai New Manga for 3,000th Issue

To celebrate a major milestone, Weekly Manga Goraku is marking its 3,000th issue with a special manga release. Legendary manga creator Go Nagai, along with his Dynamic Pro studio, is drawing a brand-new series titled Chikyū Taisen 2053, or The Great Earth Battle 2053.

This new manga will make its debut in the magazine’s 3,000th issue, set to hit shelves on July 3. It features 36 pages, including a color opening page and will appear on the front cover. However, the publisher Nihonbungeisha has yet to announce if this will be a one-shot or the start of a serialization.

Go Nagai has been a vital figure in the manga world since his debut in 1967 with Meakashi Polikichi. Over the decades, he has created iconic titles such as Cutie Honey, Devilman, Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, and Harenchi Gakuen. More recently, Nagai worked on Devilman Saga until 2020 and released an autobiographical manga called Gekiman!, which tells the story behind his works.

Weekly Manga Goraku itself has a long history. It first launched as Manga Goraku Dokuhon in 1964 before becoming the weekly magazine known today in 1971. The magazine marked its 2,000th issue back in 2006, and now reaching 3,000 issues speaks volumes about its enduring presence.

The special 3,000th issue will also be sold at a special price of 110 yen (about $0.68), making it an accessible collector’s item for manga fans. This anniversary release highlights the magazine’s long-standing support of renowned artists like Nagai and its role in bringing new stories to readers.

As manga fans await the release, they look forward to seeing how Go Nagai’s signature style shapes this latest work. With Dynamic Pro’s involvement, Chikyū Taisen 2053 promises to bring a fresh yet classic experience fitting for this milestone. The coming issue is definitely one to keep an eye on this summer.
