Hey guys, I am back again with another review. I do reviews of anime that I want to attract some attention to or I really loved. Higehiro is both. Although, thanks to Muse Asia, I don’t think there is someone who has not watched Higehiro. Huge shout out to Muse Asia, not like they need one though. But seriously, they’re doing a really good job.

Back to Higehiro again, it was a really unexpected hit from the last season. I mean I randomly stumbled onto this anime while browsing YouTube and ended up loving this anime. It shows the unexplored dark side of Japan and attempts to educate people on how to treat runaways. It’s been a while since a found a harem anime this good. Let’s get into the more detailed review then

Plot

The plot is rather unusual. The protagonist, Yoshida is drunk af after a breakup. On his way home, he finds a high school girl (JK) who asks him to let her stay in his place. Yoshida being drunk accepts her offer. The next morning he wakes up and remembering nothing about the previous night. The girl, Sayu tells him that if he lets her stay she’ll allow him to do “things” with her.

Yoshida being the chad he is (he is literally nicknamed Yoshichad by the fans) declines the offer and says that he’ll throw Sayu out if she attempts to seduce him again. They slowly develop a dependency on each and other and a sort of father-daughter bond.

I love the simple yet complex nature of the plot. While it sounds simple and all, there is a lot of depth in the plot and the characters. It really is an unusual plot for harem/romance anime. A genre that usually has simple plots. Moving on to

Characters

Higehiro is filled with really good characters. Not just Yoshichad and Sayu, the entire cast of characters is really good. Even characters that only appear for a few episodes like Sayu’s brother, Issa are very well written. Alright, I know Issa is a character important to the plot but still.

Yoshichad and Sayu still take the cake though. Sayu appears to be a complete brat at first but then like every fan of the anime and Yoshichad you’ll be like “she’s such a sweet girl. Must protect Sayu”. Yoshichad is well, like his nickname suggests, a chad. He is a really good person and an expert at lecturing people. He could have done a lot of things with Sayu but he didn’t and even protected her from everything he could.

Animations and Soundtracks

The animations are really pretty. Higehiro’s animations are not god-tier by any stretch but they look and work really well. It’s like the animations and the art style perfectly fit the tone of the anime. This is very important. If you have god-tier animations but they don’t go with the theme, the anime will be boring.

So yeah, they did put an effort into the animations and the studio’s efforts are clearly visible. As for the soundtracks, nothing stands out but the soundtrack is present. It is the standard sort of soundtrack you would expect in a romance anime. I still like it though. Not being different does not mean it’s not good.

Conclusion

I really love Higehiro and I strongly recommend that you check it out. You watch on YouTube on our dear Muse Asia’s channel. My scores for Higehiro are:

  • Plot – 9/10
  • Characters – 9/10
  • Animations – 8/10
  • Soundtrack – 8/10
  • Must protect Sayu – 10/10
  • Overall – 9/10

Well, that is all I have for now. Let me know your thoughts down in the comments. As always stay tuned for more content and do not forget to visit our art section and Instagram. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
