I am Still Not Sure Why I like The Water Magician...

I’m fully aware this show has some of the dumbest plot decisions imaginable—and I still find myself kind of enjoying it.
It frustrates me to no end, but here I am, once again talking about The Water Magician. Let’s get into it.

I feel like I am about to crash out. This anime is as generic as an isekai can get, I can pretty much predict the upcoming plot events, and some things are so contrived, they make me sob. And yet somehow, for some reason, I still find enjoyment in The Water Magician. I cannot explain how frustrating this whole thing is to me. I can rip this anime to shreds in a critical review because of how dumb some scenes and dialogue are. But man, why in THE world am I enjoying this??

Swwear to god, I am not even that big a fan of isekais, but somehow, I always find myself watching this accursed show. I am not sure what to even say at this point. I guess I could make a convincing argument for the “so bad it’s good” category, but other than that… eh. But yeah, we are talking about The Water Magician once again… let’s get into it.

My Thoughts on The Water Magician

Look, I’ll admit, the fight in episode 4 was pretty cool. It came out of nowhere, it had no foreshadowing, and neither did we know Akumas even existed before that fight. So it was kind of a nothing burger in terms of the plot. But again, the fight was pretty cool. It was nice seeing Ryo fight on the back foot for once. And the Akuma girl had a cool design. So I at least had a reason to be entertained by it. Episode 4 was pretty damn good, overall. But the just the next episode so damn dumb…

So yeah, let’s talk about Episode 5. Again, credit where credit’s due, they at least foreshadowed that monsters come to the surface from the dungeon once every few years. And they built up the whole thing over 2-3 episodes. So that’s nice. BUT, why in THE hell would you not have a city-wide lockdown if you KNOW that the monsters will be breaking through the dungeon door at any point?? The Guild Master even called in the Knights to help stop the monster, but you are telling me that they don’t have a city-wide lockdown in case some monsters escape??

I mean, at least the elf girl is really cute. Who cares about monsters when you’re busy spending time with a cute elf girl, right??

Like the whole episode, all the adventurers in the city were fighting hoards upon hoards of monsters while two of the strongest adventurers were chilling in the damn library! Why would you NOT send someone to inform Ryo and the elf girl about the upcoming monster attack?? They could’ve made the whole fight so much easier! That is SUCH a dumb contrivance, it literally made me want to pull my hair out. And this isn’t the first time this anime has done something so dumb.
