I Don’t Know How To Feel About The Water Magician

Article at a glance:

  • The Water Magician is the kind of generic, copy-paste isekai I usually despise—and yet, here I am, watching it.
  • Despite the bland MC, tired tropes, and mid-tier everything, I can’t seem to drop it, and it’s driving me insane.
  • I don’t like this show, but I also… kinda do? And I have no idea why—so let’s rant about it.

As the title suggests, I really don’t know how to feel about this one. This anime, in many ways, is the typical seasonal isekai slop I despise so much. Bland MC, expository dialog, the same old RPG-inspired magic/skill system, and a rather cliché setting. But still, for some god damn reason, I can’t help but enjoy parts of this anime. This is the first time in a while that I have been unable to make up my mind about an anime, and I did not expect it to be The Water Magician of all things. Even the title sounds generic, like bruuuh.

As if it wasn’t clear already, I don’t like this show. But I don’t hate it either. And that drives me mad. No, I don’t think in binaries like Twitter, I am capable of liking something while accepting its flaws. But the problem is, I don’t even know why I am liking The Water Magician anime so far. So yeah, welcome to another article, and today we will be ranting a bit. Let’s get started.

What do I think of The Water Magician Anime?

You see, the reason I am so mad is that normally, I would’ve dropped an anime like this in episode 1. There really isn’t much to grab onto here. Sure, the world seems interesting, but it is strangled by the same cliche isekai plot we have seen time and again. Some random dude gets reincarnated into another world, lives in the middle of a forest, learns to make his magic better by himself, and slowly becomes OP. That’s it. It doesn’t even have something unique to offer, like Farming Life in Another World or something.

And that’s exactly why this anime is driving me nuts. It is a generic ass, by-the-numbers isekai with just some minor potential in world-building. That’s all this anime is. And yet for some god damn reason, my brain refuses to let it go, and I can’t figure out why. There is no USP for this anime, as this is as generic as you can get so far. So I don’t know if I am just THAT big of an isekai fan or what. But even as I audibly groaned at all the poorly written, expository dialogue in episode 2, I still somehow look forward to episode 3. WHAT IS THIS???

And I can’t even say it because of the art direction or the animations lmao. Sure, the animations are decent and there is some cool art here and there, but I have certainly seen better. Seriously, as I said, there isn’t a single aspect of this anime that is above a 5 or 6 so far. Bro, I need help, what happened to my taste??? I… you know what? I am DONE.

That is all for now

Yeah, I just wanted to rant about The Water Magician anime, that’s it. That’s all this article was made for. Ho boy, I need a 6-hour session of Elden Ring or Baldur’s Gate 3 to recover from this embarrassment. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya.
