Key points for I’m in Love with the Villainess Review:
- “I’m in Love with the Villainess” surprises viewers with unexpected plot developments, keeping an air of unpredictability throughout the anime.
- Despite its goofiness, the main character Rae is well-written, with a surprising depth that makes up for the lack of character development. Claire also undergoes significant character growth.
- The animation and soundtrack are described as average, neither standing out nor being offensive. The overall enjoyment surpasses initial expectations, resulting in a final score of 7/10.
It’s another anime that is pretty safe for an early review LOL. Well, I say that but this anime still may have a surprise or two hidden up its sleeve. I’m in Love with the Villainess has to be one of the most unexpectedly good anime I have watched this season. I legit only went in for the Yuri stuff but came out asking some serious questions from a few episodes of this anime. Yes, it is goofy for the most part but when it is serious, it goes hard.
So welcome back to another one of my reviews. It’s probably the last one for this week. Either way, today we are talking about I’m in Love with the Villainess. Let’s get started.
While the plot itself is nothing new, it is pretty well executed. There is always an air of unpredictability about this anime that I appreciate. As evidenced by last week’s episode ending. I don’t think anyone saw the current arc coming. I wish they foreshadowed it a little better. But the twist itself and the theme of the current arc do hit hard. And I don’t know why, but I don’t hate the goofy side of this anime either. Probably because they don’t overdo it and are sure to give it a break where possible.
There is some decent world-building in this anime too. Nothing mind-blowing but enough to keep you engaged. As I mentioned earlier, this anime raises some interesting questions too. Till now, it was about love but now you also throw in a mix of nobility/commoner tension and you have yourself an actually decent plot.
This is another front where this anime is surprisingly good. Despite her actions and goofiness, Rae is actually a very well-written character, I wish she had some character development too but she is a well enough written character where I don’t mind the lack of it. Claire though, got a lot of character development. It is mostly thanks to Rae but plot incidents in general do affect her and it is pretty cool to see. The side cast is a little flat though. The Princes are just there, even if they have plot importance, their characters are really bland.
Animations and Soundtracks
The animations are alright at best. The art style is decent but nothing really stands out here either. So nothing much to say here. It is not offensively bad or anything it is just not that great. Kind of the same with soundtracks, nothing outright bad but forgettable for the most part.
Here are my final scores for I’m in Love with the Villainess:
- Plot – 8/10
- Characters – 7/10
- Animations – 6/10
- Soundtracks – 6/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Better than expected – 10/10
- Overall – 7/10
