Alright, after episode 10, I feel comfortable writing a review for Kaiju No. 8. Truth be told, the ending of the episode forced me to read the manga out of curiosity. I didn’t read too far, of course, I just read a few chapters ahead to get an idea of where the anime will conclude. I can promise you that the next two episodes are going to be bangers as well. But yeah, I have to say despite certain issues, Kaiju No. 8 has quickly become one of my favorites from this season and I have enjoyed it a lot.
So welcome back to another one of my reviews, today we are talking about the awesome Kaiju No. 8. This review will be completely spoiler-free. Because there are a lot of plot developments that are best experienced on your own. At most, I will only spoil the first episode, nothing more than that. So let’s get started.

Plot
The plot is a little cliche and predictable at times. For example, I had a general idea of what would happen in episode 10 after watching episode 9 and I was mostly right. But I still had a lot of fun watching episode 10, why is that? Well, simply put despite the plot being a little predictable the anime has a lot of other things to carry it. This is why the predictable nature of the plot won’t stand out as much to an average viewer and that is perfectly fine.
That said though, the plot still has a few well-established mysteries and an interesting world acting as a hook. The whole deal with Kaiju No. 9 and 10, we will later learn about the other numbered Kaijus. The world-building so far has been pretty good as well. The anime also has a well-established and easy-to-understand power system with enough variety to make the combat styles of different characters feel distinct.

Characters
I wish that the side characters got a bit of a character arc too. The only two characters who had a character arc of any kind in this season at least were Reno and Kafka himself. Still, though, the side characters like Kikoru, Mina, and Hoshina are inherently interesting. And the show gives you enough reason to be invested in them. And this is good because when something dangerous happens, you are immediately sucked in. After all, you don’t want to see them get hurt. This is not possible without interesting characters.
The character interactions are also a strong point of the series. The dynamics between different characters are well-defined and they’re also quite fun to watch. And as I said, Kafka is a great MC. His character arc is very relatable and wants to fight to keep a promise he made long ago. He almost gave up on it but Reno helped him out of his slump.

Animations and Soundtracks
Production IG COOKED with the animations in Kaiju No. 8. There is nothing to complain about in the animations, they’re top-tier. Even small things like eating a damn burger are so well-animated in this anime. And they managed to make the CGI look awesome and menacing as well. The soundtracks including the opening and ending theme are quite good as well.
The Kaiju battles have a certain “weight” to them, not only to convey their immense size but also to represent their tremendous strength.
