Kaiju no. 8 Season 2 Has Been Decent So far…

Article at a glance:

  • Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 started late this summer, but it’s already making up for lost time with some solid early episodes.
  • Episode 2 was a standout—tons of action, big reveals, and some great character moments (even if Kafka’s still stuck).
  • The show looks great, the music hits, and while I’ve got some gripes from the manga, Season 2’s off to a strong start.

I have no idea why Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 started airing 2 weeks after almost every other Summer 2025 anime release. I can only guess it is because of TV time slots in Japan, but I am not sure. Either way, though, even though it dropped late, it has been pretty good so far. Yeah, things have been a little slow, but like we are only 2 episodes in, and episode 2 was already such a banger. I will say, though, that my enjoyment of Season 2 is a little soured by the manga ending, so please forgive me if I sound a little down in this article.

Disclaimers aside, welcome back to another first impressions article. Today, we are talking about Kaiju No. 8 Season 2. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the manga here, but there will be spoilers for Season 2, Episode 2 ahead. You have been warned. Come back after watching the latest episode. With all that out of the way, let’s start.

What do I think of Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 so far?

We pick up right where Season 1 left off, of course. The Third Division members have been split up and assigned to different squads since their base was destroyed. Kikoru and Kafka have been assigned to the First Division under Captain Narumi, and well, as you might expect, Narumi is really strong. But he is also a bit of a goofball when not in action, so that’s a fun little change compared to Mina, who was serious all the time. But yeah, I appreciate how much personality they gave him.

While the first episode was just catching us up with the current events, Episode 2 had really good stuff. Kaiju No. 9 popped up in a random Kaiju attack, and somehow, there are two of him now?? Suffice to say, both of them are quite excited at the prospect of killing Kafka and taking his power, but Narumi and Kikoru stand in their way. I like how they didn’t make Kafka save the day here; instead, he is struggling just to get into the Kaiju form right now. I hope that this leads to a good character moment before he finally transforms in the next episode or so.

The art and animations look awesome, of course. I like how they brought back One Republic for the ending theme. It was a nice surprise seeing One Republic perform an anime ending theme. And well, now they are back again with another good song. And yep, just like Season 1, the opening theme is also in 3D abstract art. But to be honest, I liked the Season 1 opening more. That’s just a matter of taste though lol.

That is all for now

My complaints about Season 2 apply to the series in general, which is why I didn’t mention them earlier. Even though the characters are charming and the setting is interesting, the world and plot never have any significant depth. And that’s all I’ll say because I don’t want to spoil the manga ending. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. Not much to say here, it’s just more Kaiju No. 8, and that’s basically all I wanted from Season 2. With that said, I will take my leave here. I need some sleep. See ya!

Also, Initial D, new sequel! Details here!
