Again, I think it is undeniable at this point how much I like romance anime lol. I somehow completely missed that this manga was getting an anime adaptation next season. If you don’t know, Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku is a really beloved romance manga and anime adaptation for it was announced a while ago. Well, that anime adaptation will start airing in about 4 weeks from now, and man, I just had to talk about this manga. Sure, it may be a typical romance but the character work on offer is fantastic.
So welcome back to another article. I am not even sure what I should call this article lol. But we are talking about the Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku anime adaptation and why I look forward to it. So let’s get started.
About Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku anime adaptation
The anime will be based on the manga of the same name, licensed by Kodansha in English as The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity. The manga is written and illustrated by Mikami Saka. It has been serialized in Manga Pocket since October 2021. The anime adaptation will be directed by Kuroki Miyuki at CloverWorks. CloverWorks is, of course, an awesome studio. They have worked on a lot of good projects including the currently airing Wind Breaker Season 2. Incidentally, they also made my favorite romance anime, Horimiya.
As for Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, the story follows Tsumugi Rintarou. He attends a school called Chdori which is famous for its delinquents. Right next to Chidori is an all-girls school, Kikyo Private Academy that has girls from rich families. As you might expect, the two neighboring schools don’t get along. Rintarou is a nice person but because he has a scary face, people avoid him. He helps out at his family’s cake shop and one day, he makes a friend while working, Kaoruko. He’d love to continue his friendship with her but well, Kaoruko is a Kikyo student.
A fairly typical romance set-up for the plot. But where this manga truly shines is the character work, as I mentioned earlier. I don’t want to get into spoilers but Rintarou’s character arc is really compelling. The male MCs in romance mangas are generally paper thin but in this manga, Rintarou might just be the best character overall. His relationship with Kaoruko is really well-handled as well. There is a lot to look forward to in this anime for romance fans.
