Lycoris Recoil Movies Announced!

Ok, I have been hungry for more Lycoris Recoil content. It was among my favorites when it came out, yes, the ending didn’t exactly land but I still love it to this day. But when it was announced that it would be getting “a new anime project” last year, this wasn’t what I had in mind. Yes, Lycoris Recoil will be getting 6 short movies. It’s not just a single big movie, 6 short ones. Now, while I do have my issues with this format, I won’t complain much because it is more LycoReco content for me lol.

Still, I will talk about my issues with this format later on. For now, welcome back to another news article. Today we are talking about the Lycoris Recoil movies. Despite my issues, I am very excited about this. So let’s get right into it!

What do we know about the Lycoris Recoil movies?

The 2nd-anniversary event of LycoReco anime announced that the series will be getting 6 short films. Each of these films will be made by different members of the original staff with the director of the original anime, Shingo Adachi supervising them all. The character designer, Imigimuru will also be writing scripts for some of these movies. Also, it has been confirmed that these movies will focus more on the characters and slice-of-life aspects. So it is unlikely that they will move the plot forward in any way.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. Apparently, these movies are not the anime project that was announced last year. So hopes for Season 2 aren’t completely gone yet. This is unconfirmed but if true, that is huge.

My Thoughts

So I already brought up 1 issue with this format, there will likely be little to no plot development in these movies. Now, I am fine with it because I think the characters in this series are good enough to carry a slice-of-life-type series as well. But some people don’t like this announcement and I get it. Another issue is that a “short film” is around 30-40 minutes, maybe a little more. So 6 short films is almost as good as 12 episodes, equivalent to a Season 2.

But those issues aside, personally, I am just happy to see more LycoReco content, to be honest. The characters, their dynamics and their performances can easily make a slice-of-life series work too and I can’t wait to spend more time with them. Chisato and Takina in particular, I miss a lot. Yeah, I admit I am biased but that’s just how much I like this series and the characters in it. Again, I really do hope that we get a proper Season 2 down the line as well. Because there are a lot of potential plot threads they could use for a sequel.
