It is the 4th week of our recommendation series. I know I mentioned Berserk in the first week but this manga is deserving of an article of its own. Sadly we won’t be able to see its ending but I want people to appreciate this work of art so read it anyway. It is just so good.
Before we start, I’d like to remind you that this is a recommendation article and not a review so I won’t be pointing out any negatives. I am trying to convince you here to read Berserk. So let us get into details a little bit.

Introduction

Berserk is a manga written and illustrated by the late Kentaro Miura – sensei. It started its serialization all the way back in 1989. The first few volumes of the series reflect its age, we’ll talk about this in more detail a little later.
Berserk is 40 volumes long as of now. Even though we may never see its conclusion, it is still one of the best mangas to be ever made if not the best. It has been the #1 manga on MAL for a very long time now and I don’t think it’ll give away its throne to anything else anytime soon. The first few volumes may turn some readers away but, I beg you to stay strong because once the story picks up, you won’t be able to put the manga down.

Plot
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.4″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”ABeeZee||||||||” text_font_size=”20px” text_letter_spacing=”1px”]
Berserk has a really complex plot that I can’t explain all here but it is basically about Guts, a swordsman with a dark seeking his revenge on Griffith for attempting to sacrifice him and his love interest, Casca. It sounds simple but, it is really complex and deep once you get into it.
I am warning you early on, the plot is really dark but it becomes a bit more positive as the story progresses. Guts is prone to attacks from demons because of the sacrificial brand and he has to fight even if doesn’t want to. Berserk does start out slow but, it all changes when the Golden Age Arc comes around.

Art

Like I said before, the first few volumes show their age in terms of the art style. Since the manga is so old, the art isn’t very detailed in the beginning but just like the story, the art gets better too. Compare the first and the 40th volume; you will see how much the art has evolved since then. There are very few mangas that have art that is as good as the later chapter/volumes of Berserk. The best part is that you get to see this evolution yourself when you read the manga.
