Manga Recommendation of the Week – One Punch Man

So after watching this week’s anime recommendation, I figured you’d need a good laugh. So well, here we are with some great comedy along with a bunch of good stuff. Come on guys, all of know One Punch Man. This manga has been going on for a while now and man, it has never let us down. It is one of the best “parody” manga, period.
Welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series, this week we are talking about the incredible One Punch Man. I really love this manga and I have a lot to say. So let’s just start right away.
Introduction
One Punch Man is written by the legendary ONE and illustrated by Murata Yuusuke. OPM started serialization in the Tonari no Young Jump Magazine on 14th June 2012. It is still ongoing and I have no idea how chapters in it is at this point. OPM is one of the best comedy/”parody” mangas of all time.
One Punch Man is the perfect manga when you want some crazy action or some really good comedy. ONE has a great sense of humor and he has done a fantastic job on this series as well. OPM is perfect for randomly picking up a chapter and enjoying it when you want to pass some time. It is an entertaining manga through and through.
Plot
One Punch Man follows Saitama a guy who apparently worked out so hard that his hair fell out after losing all hope in life. He grows so strong that no enemy can stand up to him in any way. Seeing his strength a cyborg called Genos decides to become his apprentice. The series follows their daily lives and their encounters with random enemies that often Saitama ends up destroying.
I am sorry for that bad description, but I can’t think of a way to describe the plot of One Punch Man in a better way. Well, my mistakes aside, the plot doesn’t really matter in a parody series like this generally but, ONE is different. He gave OPM some crazy amounts of world-building and he even goes out of his way to provide backstories for characters. The plot is really well-paced too.
Characters
One Punch Man has aΒ lotΒ of different characters. ONE is so good at writing characters that even random mob characters get backstories and character development. Saitama definitely takes the cake here though, he is such a funny character. Even during all kinds of intense fights, the only thing on his mind is supermarket sales. Aside from that, he is a genuinely good guy. Easily one of the best MCs I’ve seen.
Art
Murata Yuusuke spared no effort in the art department. One Punch Man has a really good art style and the fights look incredible. The scale and details of the art are just crazy. The art does a fantastic job of making the monsters look really intimidating. Oh, and all the Saitama meme faces are also amazing.
Why should you read One Punch Man?
