I was going to save my Mushoku Tensei Season 2 mid-season review for the next week but how can I talk about it when the anime shows me an episode like this? I am not kidding, Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 17 is one of the best anime episodes I have watched in recent memory. Certainly the best one from this season so far. The whole subject matter of this episode was something I feel almost everyone can relate to. This episode did a flat-out amazing job of showcasing Mushoku Tensei’s strengths: its character-driven stories.

So welcome back to another mid-season review. Today we are talking about Mushoku Tensei Season 2, Episode 17 in particular will be a highlight here. Or Season 2 Part 2 Episode 5 if you prefer that naming convention. I will go with Season 2 Episode 17 for the sake of simplicity. And of course, spoilers for the latest episode ahead. Please watch Episode 17 before proceeding.

Why is Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 17 So good?

Throughout last week’s episode, we saw that Norn did not like being around Rudy. Which is understandable, the first time she saw him, he was brutally punching her father. And of course, after that, she had a hard time accepting that Rudy is her brother and there was a reason as to why he ended up punching Paul like that. But that first impression and a combination of other factors like everyone praising him, despite Norn seeing him as a bad person and constantly being compared to him led Norn to shut herself in her room.

This is not good. As this could be the start of something Rudy is intimately familiar with. He absolutely does NOT want Norn to end up like he did in his previous life. We see how just the thought of that happening affects Rudy, in certain scenes he is clearly projecting his old life. He regrets his old life so much, he regrets not reaching out to his brother even when his brother tried to reach out to him. He does not want Norn to end up that way and god you can feel his desperation throughout the episode even though he is not sure what he can even do to help.

And then the ending of the episode is just poetic. In the end, Rudy is just unable to help her despite trying his best. He doesn’t even know the exact reason why Norn locked herself up. She ends up sorting out her feelings herself. The episode concludes with Rudy remembering his brother from his previous life again and thinking to himself if Nanahoshi manages to go back, maybe he will send a message to him thanking him along with an apology. What a beautiful episode.

that is all for now!

Mushoku Tensei Seaosn 2 Episode 17 was truly PEAK. I don’t know how the series or any other episode in this season going to top this. Let me know what you guys think in the comments, I will take my leave here. See ya!
