Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Episode 13 was Hard to Watch…

At a glance:

  • Episode 13 finally shows us the full story of the “other” Rudeus and what went so horribly wrong.
  • Some genuinely brutal moments make this episode incredibly hard to watch, but in the best possible way.
  • The butterfly effect is on full display here, showing just how much one small decision can completely change Rudeus’ life.
Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Episode 13

Look, I will be the first person to admit that Mushoku Tensei is hard to watch in a bad way a lot of the time. Rudy’s antics early on in the series are indefensible, and I don’t blame anyone for dropping the series because of his actions. I don’t know why the author chose to portray him this way, but it is what it is. But that is not Season 3 Episode 13 was like, this episode is very much Mushoku Tensei firing on all cylinders. They’ve had really good episodes for the past few weeks now, but Episode 13 easily takes the cake. Episode 13 was hard to watch in the right way.

Of course, there will be major spoilers ahead. The previous 2 episodes have had some insane revelations, and this episode builds on them. So only continue if you’ve caught up with the series. With that said, let’s get into it.

Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Episode 13 was amazing

Mushoku Tensei Season 3 Episode 13

So, as you may have guessed after the previous episode, Episode 13 shows the life of the “other” Rudeus. And man, it was really damn hard to see Roxy fall sick and die. Of course, her death did a number on Rudeus, so much so that he started to treat Sylphie badly because of it. And Sylphie ends up dying in Asura because of whatever Ariel did as well. We heard this story last week from Oldeus, but seeing it- seeing Roxy suffering and Sylphie being pelted to death has to be some of the most disturbing visuals the show has ever produced.

Rudy pretty much loses all his sanity after losing both of his wives. Given his behavior, it made sense why Eris wanted to fight him so bad. She thought that she could beat some sense into him and continued chasing him. I think it was the death of Eris that somewhat shook him back to his senses. Don’t get me wrong, he is still kind of insane even after that, but he just gets burnt out at some point. That’s when he decided that going back in time was probably worth trying so that he doesn’t end up like this.

Again, we heard this story in the last episode. But I am glad that they went out of their way to show it. Showing stuff like this really helps with establishing the stakes. And this has to be one of the best showcases of the butterfly effect. How Rudy opening one door led to his entire life falling apart. I cannot wait to see what the final episode for this part holds, assuming there will be a Season 3 Part 2. Either way, it should be one hell of a finale, especially after continuing after something like this.
