The latest manga to join others in this ending spiral is My Dress-Up Darling. Man, we are having these good stories conclude left and right, why is Rent-a-Girlfriend still here? Oh yeah, because the author wants to milk it dry and is too lazy to think of a climax or any kind of plot progression at all.

The manga will finish its 7-year run in the upcoming March issue of Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine. To be more specific, it will be the 7th issue of the magazine for 2025, and it will drop on March 21st. So that means that the next chapter of the manga will be the final chapter. Of course, we have a 2nd Season of the anime adaptation coming later this year as well. And hopefully, the anime will go on to cover everything, given that the manga isn’t very long.

To be frank, this announcement feels a bit too sudden. Some people have conspiracy theories that the manga got axed, or the editor forced the author to end i,t or something. I have even seen health issues being brought up. But none of these claims are substantiated, so I will not give them a second thought. The reason for such an abrupt announcement could be something as simple as the author wanting to finish the story at a high point or running out of ideas for the future.
That’s perfectly fine by the way, I don’t see how the ending for MDUD can mess up. Sure, there will be certain unresolved plot threads, but at the very least, it will be a sweet and wholesome ending. That is all you need from a romance manga ending. And we have seen so many terrible manga endings recently that I really don’t see how this can be any worse. So I am not worried about the ending itself, really. Most rom-coms tend to end right after the couple starts dating, but we got quite a few post-dating chapters in MDUD. So that’s always good.
