My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Review

I’ve just finished writing the Grand Blue review, and here we are, moving straight on to the next one. My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is a weird one. In many ways, I appreciate how much this season did for Gojo, but at the same time, I do feel that the whole thing is getting just a little stale now. Of course, I’ll go into more details as the review continues, but My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 has been interesting to say the least.
But yeah, welcome back to another review, today, we are talking about My Dress-Up Darling Season 2. I don’t think I need a spoiler warning for this one. But yeah, with all that said, let’s get started.
Plot
Just like Season 1, the plot remains pretty episodic for the most part, with only a few episodes covering story arcs. I think Season 2 is overall slightly better paced than Season 1. Because there isn’t much downtime at all in Season 2. But one thing I noticed in Season 2 was the “lack of challenge.” See, back in Season 1, every single cosplay felt like a big deal. Season 2 lacks that. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing by itself, but Season 2 only had one major cosplay, which was for the beauty pageant in the school festival arc.
Other than that, no major complaints from the plot, really. The show still does the slice-of-life stuff well.
Characters
First and foremost, I love all the development Gojo goes through throughout Season 2. He starts engaging with Marin’s friends and his class in general more. I love how everyone came out to support him in whatever way they could during the school festival. In Season 1, Gojo was a passive protagonist, only reacting to whatever was thrown his way and learning from it. In Season 2, they do a good job of transitioning him to a more active role.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Marin or their relationship in general. Marin’s character, or her and Gojo’s relationship, has grown very little, if at all, over the course of Season 2. There isn’t much difference between the Marin at the end of Season 1 compared to the Marin of Season 2 Episode 10.
That said, though, Season 2 did introduce a good bunch of side characters like Amane and Akira. I want to see more of them, especially Akira.
Production
Yes, I know we just had censorship problems, I am not going to touch on that; I made a whole article about it. But yeah, CloverWorks showed up as always. Their animations are always top-tier; everything from the art style to the clothing physics looks fantastic. Also, a huge shout-out to Suguta Hina, Marin’s VA, for bringing her best to the role. She voices all those little noises Marin makes so well, peak VA. Not a huge fan of the opening theme but I really like the new ending theme, it’s cute.
Summing Up
Here are my final review scores for My Dress-Up Darling Season 2:
- Plot – 6/10
- Characters – 7/10
- Production – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Overall – 7.25/10
I know the review may sound a little harsh, but the truth is, I did enjoy MDUD Season 2 as a whole despite its flaws. But let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
