Nichijou Author’s Manga, City Gets an Anime adaptation!

Article at a glance:
- KyoAni is adapting Keiichi Arawi’s manga “City,” bringing back the iconic Nichijou-style gag humor, with a planned release next year.
- The anime will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, featuring Mikako Komatsu, Aki Toyosaki, and Yui Ishikawa in the main cast.
- The familiar art style reminiscent of Nichijou evokes nostalgia, highlighting the importance of bringing back absurd comedy anime in stressful times.

Okay, I said that Shikanoko was the closest we would probably ever get to a Nichijou Season 2 but turns out, I was wrong. Yes, KyoAni is here to prove me wrong with this surprise announcement of an anime adaptation for City. City is also a manga written by Keiichi Arawi. They started working on this after finishing Nichijou. And if you know anything about Nichijou, you can probably imagine what kind of manga this is lol. This is exactly what we need more of. Brig gag humor back, please.
So welcome to another news article and I am very excited to cover this news. Today we are talking about the City anime adaptation. So let’s get started,

What do we know about the City Anime Adaptation?
City the Animation will be made by Kyoto Animation, just like Nichijou was back in the day. While the Nichijou manga is still ongoing somehow, the City manga has concluded. It was published from September 2016 to February 2021 in the Morning weekly magazine, the same as Nichijou. City is quite short at just 13 volumes or 187 chapters. I wonder why they didn’t do a Nichijou Season 2 and instead adapted City but you know what? I will take what I get.
Speaking of the anime adaptation, Taichi Ishidate will be directing the anime. Mikako Komatsu, Aki Toyosaki and Yui Ishikawa will be starring as the main cast. The anime is scheduled to come out sometime next year. We don’t have a confirmed release window so that will have to do for now. We also got a teaser PV and man, that familiar art style brings back so many memories. Check it out here!
My Thoughts
I can’t recall the last time I saw Yui Ishikawa in a comedy role lol. Honkai: Star Rail, I guess? If that counts. She usually plays the stoic, quiet kind of characters like Mikasa, 2B, Clorinde, etc. So it will be fun to see her in a comedy for a change lol. And yeah, as I said, that familiar Nichijou-type art style makes me nostalgic. Looking at that art style alone reminded me of how much I miss Nichijou.
I really can’t be happier to see an anime adaptation announcement. Life is more stressful than ever and as such, we really should bring back these absurd comedy animes. I am gonna need more of these. And the fact that Kyoto Animation is coming back to adapt this manga too is just the icing on top of the cake. A large part of why Nichijou was so iconic has to do with KyoAni as well. They get this brand of comedy so I expect them to cook up something fun yet again.
That is all for now!
As you can tell, I am very happy with this announcement and I look forward to the City anime adaptation, whenever it comes out next year. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
