OK, We Need to Talk About Slime Season 3

Article at a glance:

  • The anime’s repeated use of meetings for exposition in Season 3 feels monotonous and drags down the pacing compared to the LN.
  • Despite crucial world-building, the anime’s handling of dialogue exchanges in these meetings makes the build-up feel slower and less engaging.
  • The upcoming action scenes are expected to revitalize viewer interest, but the current slow pace has been frustrating for many fans.

Ok, back when I was reading the LN for this part, I didn’t expect that it’d come off as this obnoxious in the anime. If you have been active in the community or are watching the anime on Muse Asia, I am sure you have seen the meeting memes. Yep, every episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 so far has had a meeting of some kind in it. And regardless of the context, repetition like that does get boring. Especially in the anime format.

So let’s talk about That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 today. Even I can’t defend how the anime is coming across right now. Because even I am getting bored. Just waiting for the action to finally kick in. I don’t know what this article will be like. I have no set plans for this in my mind, I’ll figure it out while writing. This is not a mid-season review by the way. The anime is scheduled for 24 episodes. So still a few weeks to go before a mid-season review. Still, let’s get started.

What do I think of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 so far?

Ok, what’s up with all these meetings? I am sure the exposition the meetings usually have could’ve been handled in a better way. It is not this obnoxious in the LN because well, you are not “seeing” it happen. It stands out a lot more in the anime because you see them time and again just talking in the same damn room. The content discussed in the meetings is important, sure. But again, for the anime adaptation, the dialog exchanges that take place during the meetings could’ve been handled in a much better way.

Repetition like this doesn’t look good in animation format. And this has been happening consistently for 4-5 episodes straight now. I assure you, the upcoming fights and the arc in general are quite good. I just don’t get why they couldn’t figure out a better way to get the conversations across. Because of this, the start and the build-up of the arc feel slower than they actually are. Sure, there is a lot of good world-building and stuff in these episodes, and I appreciate that. But if the pacing feels sluggish and boring, what’s the point?

Here, between all the boring stuff, look at appreciate how pretty Luminous’s eyes are

So yeah, while I know that most people will enjoy the arc once the action starts, I do feel like the anime could’ve handled this build-up period better. Something a little more creative than a room with a bunch of people in it would’ve done lol. For one or two episodes, it is fine. But 4 or 5 episodes straight is a bit excessive.

That is all for now

Again, I know that once the action starts, we’ll all go right back to praising the anime and while I don’t mind the current state as much as some other people, I do acknowledge it was getting kind of annoying. Now hopefully, there will be no more of this for a while after next week’s episode. So yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments, how do you feel about That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 so far? With that said, I will take my leave here.
