It has been a while since we had a good historical anime. The last one I believe was Vinland Saga Season 2. I don’t think we’ve had another awesome historical anime since… well, we do have The Elusive Samurai this season. But from what I’ve seen of Orb; On the Movements of the Earth, it looks to be pretty strong as well. Now to be honest though, I read the plot synopsis and stuff later. The announced cast is just so damn good that I just couldn’t ignore it. They have announced 3 cast members so far and all of them are among my favorite VAs of all time.

So welcome back to another edition of Put This on Your Radar! The series where I talk about upcoming anime that caught my eye. And today we are talking about Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.

What do we know about Orb: On the Movements of the Earth?

So let’s go over the plot first because it is very interesting. The series is set during the Middle Ages when people who went “against the faith” were burnt at the stake, even if their findings had reason. A guy called Rafal finds out that Earth revolves around the Sun and it’s not the other way around. This discovery would surely get him executed so he hides it but he ends up in the hands of The Inquisition anyway. Years later, Oczy and Gras find his research and now, it is up to them to decide what they do with it.

We don’t know much about the staff but the anime will be made by Madhouse. And it will be coming out quite soon, in October this year. As for the cast members that got me so hyped, we have Tsuda Kenjiro, Sakamoto Maaya, and Hayami Shou as our main cast. Those are three amazing voice actors and as I mentioned, among my favorites of all time. You can check out the teaser PV here. Tell you what, if they maintain this animation quality for the anime itself, we’ll be in for a treat.

So let’s move on to

My Thoughts

So the voice actors had me sold on this show as is but the premise made it even better. It is a very interesting idea and period to tackle. I have been told that this manga can get quite graphic as well… which isn’t surprising considering the era it is set in. I mean, they burned people on stakes in public back then, what do you expect? But yeah, I am very excited about this anime. It is on NHK too so there’s a good chance that it will be a 24-episode production instead of just 12… but that is just speculation.
