Our Dating Story – First Impressions

Key points for Our Dating Story first impressions:
- Our Dating Story presents a familiar yet promising premise of an introverted MC confessing to the school idol, Runa, leading to unexpected developments.
- The first episode provides intriguing character depth for Runa, exploring the impact of her popularity on relationships and hinting at potential for further development.
- The anime’s art style is visually appealing, with vibrant animations, though the reviewer notes occasional brightness preferences. Overall, a decent start with room for improvement, earning a 6.5/10 score.
Y’all already knew that I was going to watch this LOL. As much as this season has to offer in the sheer volumes of big anime, it really is missing some romance. So as a romance fan, I will grab what I can get. And that led me to Our Dating Story.
I have heard good things about this manga, and the first episode looked promising enough So I am curious to see what this series does moving forward. As I said, there isn’t much in terms of romance anime this season so if you are a romance fan like me, you’ll have to make do with this.
But there is no need to worry because this anime actually looks to have some potential. So welcome back to another episode of my First Impressions series. Today we are talking about Our Dating Story. Let’s start.
What do I think of Our Dating Story Episode 1?
So simple enough set-up, The typical introverted male MC likes the school idol, Runa but doesn’t have the courage to confess. One day because of a punishment game, he is forced to confess and to his surprise, she accepts. The thing with Runa is that no “boyfriend” of her lasted long. She never turned anyone down when she was single but when she’s in a relationship, she does her best to keep her “boyfriend” happy.
Given how famous she is and what kind of guys confessed to her, it is easy to imagine why none of them lasted long. See, despite having had so many “relationships”, she never did experience a proper relationship. When you are constantly given bad examples of love, you start to think that is what love actually means. That is pretty much what happened with Runa as well. That is some nice character depth for just one episode.
I hope that they run with this theme are give her more character development and depth down the line. The MC, Ryuuto feels very bland as of now. I hope he gets a proper character too and doesn’t just stay as a “self-insert” protagonist. A romance anime is driven by characters after all. Aside from that, the art style of this anime is really pretty, sometimes it is too bright for my taste but in general, I do like the animations.
That is all for now!
So it was a decent and entertaining first outing. This anime has a lot of potential to be really good and I look forward to the new episodes. The first episode while impressive in some aspects, did leave a bit to be desired in the rest. So I think a score of 6.5/10 should be good enough for it. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
