Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2: Is The Series Worth Watching?

To say Rent-a-Girlfriend is a divisive and sometimes hated series would be an understatement. Many people are really confused why this thing even got a second season. But, it got a sequel anyway and there is nothing we can do about it. I know a lot of people hate the manga as it goes on and I understand that. So is it going to be worth watching the second season? Well, that is what I’ll discuss today.
Look before I even start, what you want to watch is completely up to you. If you like the series, that is fine too; I’m no one to question your tastes. I am just here to give my outlook on the series and the upcoming parts. To serve as a sort of “warning”, if you will to people who don’t know what’s coming. Rent-a-Girlfriend is a very frustrating series and it gets worse, really quick with time. So well, let’s start with a brief introduction for those uninitiated.
Introduction
Ren-a-Girlfriend is an ongoing manga written by Miyajima Reiji. It started serialization on 12th June 2017 in the Shounen Weekly Magazine. It has an anime adaptation, the second season of which just started airing. In fact, episode 1 of season 2 just came out at the time of writing. I personally won’t be watching season 2 because I’m aware of what is coming and I refuse to expose myself to that again.
Rent-a-Girlfriend is about this guy, Kazuya who after his break up stumbles upon a girlfriend rental website. Yes, you heard it right. On one of his rental dates, he’s forced to bring this girl, Chizuru to the hospital to see his grandmother. His family ends up thinking they’re actually dating and Kazuya also lies to keep his reputation. Now they’re trapped in a fake relationship.
What do I think of Rent-a-Girlfriend? Is it worth the agony?
Short answer, no. No series is worth the watch if it pains you to continue. That is what I think at least. The biggest problem of Rent-a-Girlfriend in my opinion is Kazuya. He is indecisive, he ends up falling for Chizuru but still has feelings for Mami. He is ready and willing to take advantage of any and all girls in his reach and he cannot bring himself to be dedicated to a single girl. What’s worse than this? The girls know this and still like him; it’s like fucking School Days all over again after a while in this. Not as violent but equally as frustrating.
Don’t even get me started on Mami. She cannot take the fact that Kazuya is dating someone else even though she treated him like trash when they were in a relationship. The only sane person in Rent-a-Girlfriend is probably Chizuru. Because Kazuya and Mami are both trash of different types. So no, I doΒ notΒ think this series is worth continuing if you want to keep your sanity. If you still like it and want to watch it, go ahead. I am no one to stop you in that case. I think that a frustrating series like this isn’t worth anyone’s time.
Conclusion
That is all for now. Remember, those were my personal opinions on the series. I am no one to try and change your opinions so let me know what you guys think in the comments. I don’t remember when was the last time when a series made me as angry as Rent-a-Girlfriend. With that said though, I’ll take my leave here. See ya!
