Re:Zero Season 3 Part 2 Review – Well, That Escalated Quickly

You know, when Part 1 concluded, we were all cheering, it was a major victory for Subaru. We all thought it was only up from then on. But well, nope. Part 2 sent us all for a loop and ended on a crazy cliffhanger. I knew writing the review for Re:Zero Season 3 Part 2 would be interesting since I have read the novel. But the anime still caught me somewhat off-guard. Not because they changed anything but just the nature of the twist is so crazy that it just hits hard.
Yes, I was being vague on purpose. Moving forward, everything is a huge spoiler. So please, be warned and only continue if you’ve watched Season 3 already or don’t care about spoilers. Welcome back to another review and today we are talking about Re:Zero Season 3 Part 2! So let’s get started.
Plot
I love the contrast of Part 1 ending on a high note and then Part 2 leaving us all in utter shambles. And I mean that not just for the characters in the show, this applies to us the audience as well. When Regulus was defeated at the end of Part 1, we all let our guards down and thought nothing could go wrong after this. And despite Part 2 opening with the same high wave, the ending is just insane. I am very curious about seeing the long-term consequences of the memory wipe multiple characters went through.
Subaru himself lost parts of his memory and that is crucial because his whole character is built around being able to learn and utilize his knowledge. Much like Part 1, Part 2’s plot moves at a breakneck speed. Part 2’s plot is not as deep as Part 1 because Part 2 is more action-oriented and aims to wrap up everything Part 1 sets up and Part 2 does that job very well. Part 2 concludes every major plot line set up by Part 1 and the ending is great at building intrigue for the upcoming Season 4. I can’t ask for more.
Characters
This will mostly be the same as Part 1. Because as I said, Part 2 is more action-oriented so there isn’t as much character focus here as there was in Part 1 outside of the ending. That doesn’t mean Part 2 doesn’t have some awesome character moments, of course, it does. The ending in itself is such a big character moment for so many different characters. I am very curious about where his character will go following the partial memory wipe.
Of course, Emilia and Subaru remain the prime focus of Part 2, just like they were in Part 1. Aside from them, Reihard has really grown on many and I am sure he has quite a few new fans after Season 3.
Animations and Soundtracks
Not much to say here, the animation quality is in line with Part 1. Part 2 just has more opportunities to show off the animations because of the increased action. But still, the animations overall are pretty good and the fights are really good as well. Again, I liked the opening and ending themes and OST design overall is pretty good. So no complaints here.
