Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Reboot – How is it going so far?

Key points for Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Reboot:

  • The reboot’s animation quality stands out, enhancing the overall experience, though some stylistic choices may not be universally appealing.
  • The effort to modernize the series includes trimming down unnecessary elements, with success seen in arcs like Takani Megumi’s, creating a more engaging narrative.
  • Excitement builds for upcoming arcs, especially the Shinsengumi arc, with expectations of visually impressive renditions, though a desire to reduce filler content persists.

I took a break from this anime for a few weeks since I had to keep up with all the Fall Season releases. I watched episodes 13 to 16 of Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Reboot just a few hours ago and I had some thoughts I wanted to get off. So here we are.

This should technically be a “mid-season” review since the anime is 24 episodes long and only 16 are out so far. But to hell with it, I just wanted to talk about this anime after watching the recent few episodes.

So welcome back to… well, welcome back to another article. I am not even sure what to call this article yet LOL. But let’s talk about the Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Reboot today.

Cut those bangs man, they’re impractical for battle o_0

What do I think of Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Reboot so far?

Let’s get the obvious part out of the way first, the animations for this reboot have been really good. They’re not perfect, in my opinion as I am not fully into certain art style choices, like Kenshin’s scar for example. It should be a deeper color and more prominent. That aside though, the new animations really do a service to this anime. The fights look so much better than the original series. They also cut down some of the chatter between fights so now you feel the urgency even more.

They’re doing their best to remove the aspects of the original series that didn’t age well. And so far, they’ve been mostly successful. The whole Takani Megumi arc was a good example of this. Since the arc was more concise and concentrated, it kept you on the edge. That whole arc along with the ending with Aoshi was really well done. Aoshi seems like a much bigger deal than in the original. We haven’t had an arc like that since episode 13 now and I can’t wait to see more stuff like that.

Especially excited about the Shinsengum arc. Because I know that the Gatotsu will look awesome in modern animations. I am not sure if we will get that arc in this season but man, I hope we do. On the negative side though, I would have really liked it if they cut down some more filler aspects of the show. They cut down a fair bit of them but there’s still enough of them to kind of suck the fun out of the pacing of the show.

That is all for now!

So yeah, those were my thoughts on Jujutsu Kaisen 2023 Reboot so far. It is pretty decent and has been an improvement over the original anime for the most part. I just wish we could have the old art style back with modern animations and stuff because that would be rad. Let me know what you guys think in the comments though. I will take my leave here. See ya!!
