Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan – The Brainrot is here!

Article at a glance:

  • Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan delivers chaotic humor, reminiscent of Nichijou, requiring viewers to embrace the absurdity.
  • WIT Studio’s high-quality animation, voice performances, and soundtracks enhance the comedic experience, highlighted by the catchy opening theme.
  • The first episode introduces a nonsensical plot where delinquent-turned-model-student Koshi Torako’s life is upended by the antler-wearing Nokotan, leading to hilariously chaotic situations.

Well, the new brainrot is here and it even comes with a dance. This anime will probably become the modern-day Nichijou and I am here for it. Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan is unhinged gag-humor personified. Much like Nichijou was back in the day. If you don’t like humor like that, this anime isn’t for you because the more you think about it, the less sense it makes. But if you can put your brain aside and just go with the flow, you will love this show.

And that is pretty much what happened in the first episode. It has been a while since I watched something like this. Sure, we had KonoSuba last season but KonoSuba makes sense compared to this. So it took me a moment to get back into that “don’t think about it” mindset and then I enjoyed the episode infinitely more. So welcome back to my first proper Summer 2024 article. And of course, we are starting this season off by talking about Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan. Let’s get started.

Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan

First of all, the opening theme is a banger. We’ve all heard the chorus for it a 1000 times at this point but it never gets old and the rest of the song is awesome too. Plus, we got a really nice dance to pair the song with thanks to the opening animation. The opening animation also has a Dark Souls and a JoJo reference, both of which made me chuckle. Nichijou was made by KyoAni back in the day, and Shikanoko is made by WIT Studio. So you already know what kind of animation quality you can expect.

Man, WIT continues putting out bangers. The voice performances and the soundtracks across the board are amazing. That epic “Shiiiika” soundtrack that played as Nokotan entered the classroom had me dying on the floor. The plot makes as little sense as you may imagine. Koshi Torako used to be a delinquent at some point but in high school, she strives to maintain her image as this model student. But Nokotan transfers to her school and she is somehow able to that Koshi was a delinquent in the past, using her antlers of all things

And all hell breaks lose in Koshi’s life after that. She somehow even gets roped into being the president of a club by Nokotan. It was a hilarious episode from start to finish. The anime starts with a 4th wall break, that’s how you know a show is going to be good.

That is all for now!

Let me know what you guys think of Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan Episode 1 in the comments. I am going to enjoy this show a lot. But at the same time, I am already scared about having to write a review of this eventually. How do you critically review something like this? Well, we’ll find out. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
