Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You Episode 7 was Cute

At a Glance:
- Episode 7 finally feels like a proper continuation after the anime’s rather confusing initial release.
- Sasaki and Tayama’s relationship is the real highlight, with plenty of sweet and genuinely funny moments.
- The character development is subtle but surprisingly strong, although the episodic nature can make the premise feel repetitive at times.

Smoking Behind the Supermarket has been really fun so far. Yeah, the initial release was a bit messy and confusing. They had already put out the first 6 episodes as mini-episodes. Episode 7, by extension, was the first proper “new” episode we saw after the initial release. And I just have to say, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You Episode 7 was pretty cute. Despite the episodic nature of the series, there is real character growth here. And I really love just how much personality Tayama/Yamada and Sasaki both have.
So, what do I actually think about the anime so far? Well, that’s exactly what we’re here to talk about. Welcome back to another mid-season review, and these are my thoughts on Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You as of Episode 7. Let’s get started.
My Thoughts on Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You Episode 7

Let me talk about the anime a little before we get to Episode 7 specifically. The first thing I want to praise is just how much character development there is, even if it’s subtle, despite the episodic nature of the show. It actually does feel like time has passed since Sasaki and Tayama first met. There are no drastic, big character moments or anything, but this isn’t that type of show. The relationship between Tayama and Sasaki is purposefully very grounded. Just two people finding comfort in each other’s company through thick and thin. Smoking is their only escape during the day. That’s the appeal of the show.
There’s a very sweet moment in Episode 7 that shows exactly this. Yamada has to take a pay-raise exam, something she’s not very enthusiastic about, but she does it anyway because Goto encouraged her. What does she do to stay motivated? Just asks Sasaki to write her a good-luck charm as Tayama. In return, she also gives Sasaki a funny note that helps him keep his head cool whenever his boss yells at him. There’s this other moment in Episode 7 where Tayama tries to scare Sasaki with a ghost story, but his reaction isn’t comical like most shows. He just brushes it off lol.

I really love how mature and grounded their relationship feels, even if Sasaki acts like a goof at times. Sasaki is somehow one of the most perceptive people I’ve seen while managing to be incredibly dense at times. I really like how well he understands people because of his job and his age, dealing with all kinds of bullshit his whole life. Another thing I like is that Tayama/Yamada isn’t losing out on the character work either. I really loved the backstory they gave her. I just hope that there’s more growth by the end of the show because at times the same premise can get a little repetitive, even if the circumstances are different.
That is all for now
Those were my thoughts and opinions on Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You so far. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I have been really enjoying the show so far. I understand that the premise can get repetitive at times, but trust me, the show has gotten better as it’s gone along, and I hope it continues in that direction. But yeah, with that said, I will take my leave here. I am very sleepy. See ya!
