So I Finally Checked Out Gachiakuta

I finally got around to watching this anime, and man, I should’ve gotten to this earlier. I know I’ve made an article on Gachiakuta before, but I couldn’t get around to actually watching the anime because of time. But I finally do have time to check it out, and man, I love this. This show is like a combination of Made in Abyss, Mad Max, and Trigun, and it just somehow works. The art and animations are amazing, the writing is good, the world is interesting, and the music SLAPS. They even got Mori Calliope to do some of the music.

I’ve only watched 6-7 episodes so far, but I am already hooked. Hopefully, I’ll catch up with the rest of the show in time for the ending so that my review for this goes out on time. For now, though, welcome to my first impressions article on Gachiakuta. So let’s get started.

What did I think of Gachiakuta so far?

Imagine a deep, dark, unending hole. A hole in which every single thing unwanted by the world you live in is thrown, including all the negative feelings. OH, and people too. Every single criminal is undesirable, so they’re tossed into the hole too. What is on the other side of the whole? Well, a whole new world called “The Ground,” a world with nearly unbreathable air and enough garbage to make the average landfill feel inadequate. The negative emotions cast down into the hole are so strong that they sometimes form large monsters made of trash.

I won’t tell you any more about the plot because the story and world here at offer are really interesting. There are multiple factions in the Ground with their own agendas. And despite how desolate it may appear, there are people actually just living there because this is all they’ve known for their whole life. The world itself is interesting enough to carry the whole anime, but the production and action just elevate it to another level. The art style is interesting, the animations are nice and smooth, and once again, the music is AMAZING.

My only complaint so far is that the characters feel kinda shallow. The character personalities are distinct, but the anime hasn’t given me a reason to care about any of them so far, other than Rudo. Rudo’s desire for revenge is a good motivation to push the plot forward. But I suspect this will change over time as I watch the anime and get more familiar with the characters. I am only a few episodes in anyway.

But yeah, those were my first impressions of Gachiakuta. I like the anime so far, despite having some issues. But man, the music and the action are more than good enough to make every single episode entertaining as hell. But with that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
