Sony’s Annual Report Drops Mention of PC Game Releases

Sony’s recent annual report filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (USSEC) notably omits a statement about releasing their first-party games on PC. This marks a notable change from last year’s report, which clearly indicated Sony’s intent to bring more PlayStation titles to the PC platform.
Industry insider Jason Schreier shared details from a May 18 internal Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) town hall meeting. According to Schreier, SIE Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst announced that Sony no longer plans to release its single-player games on PC. This change comes after earlier reports suggested a shift in Sony’s approach to PC releases.
Back in March, Bloomberg reported that Sony scrapped plans for PC versions of certain internally developed games, including the highly anticipated Ghost of Yōtei. The report also mentioned that Saros would remain a PlayStation 5 exclusive. However, some online multiplayer titles like Marathon and Marvel Tokon are still expected to launch on PC.
Sony will continue publishing externally developed games on PC, such as Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, which are both scheduled for release this year. These titles are separate from Sony’s internal studio projects and seem to follow a different strategy.
This development contrasts with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s past strategy starting in 2020. Since then, they released several significant single-player titles for PC, including Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War Ragnarök, and The Last of Us series. These games often featured technical upgrades on PC, such as unlocked frame rates and ultra-wide support.
Sony has not commented officially on these changes, and industry sources caution that their plans may still evolve because the video game market remains unpredictable. Fans hoping for more PlayStation exclusives on PC might need to adjust expectations for now.
With the Ghost of Yōtei sequel already out on PS5 and Death Stranding making its way to PC, Sony’s evolving strategy highlights a focus on platform exclusivity for internal games while still supporting third-party titles on PC. It will be interesting to see how this shift impacts Sony’s presence across gaming platforms in the near future.
