Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 7 was a Banger

Spy x Family Season 3, in many ways, has been quite a bit different from the previous two. Sure, Season 2 did get a bit more serious, but Season 3 has been really going all out, showing us the state of the world, a bit more of the history, and the political orientation of all the different factions. I know Spy x Family is looked upon as the “edgy slice-of-life” anime or something by a lot of people, but the world-building has been genuinely good. And yeah, Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 7 just continues this trend forward.

So welcome back to another mid-season review. And today we are talking about Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 7! Of course, spoilers ahead; consider yourself warned. And with that said, let’s just get it started.

What did I think of Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 7?

As I said, in Season 3, we have been getting a lot of world-building. Everything from Loid’s backstory to Yor running into Damien’s mom contributes to painting a picture of the world’s political climate. The core story is still about Loid, Anya, and Yor, but the overall world has been expanded a lot. I also love how they go out of their way to show a random day in other characters’ lives as well. Just goes on to add more layers to an already decent story. It shows that these characters exist even beyond the scope of the main trio.

So a faction called The Red Circus ends up hijacking two buses from Anya’s school, and they basically want to exchange the kids for some prisoners in police custody. I don’t think I need to explain what “The Red Circus” is an allegory to, I think it is pretty on the nose lol, but that’s where they messed up. The secret agencies from both countries and the police are now on their tail because, well, the bus contained children from a lot of important families.

What I liked in this episode was not only all the plot threads it set up, but I also liked how believable the reactions from all the kids are. Yeah, Anya acts stupid here and there, but for the most part, the girl has it together and even manages to send out a message with Becky’s help. Even Damien ended up standing up against the kidnapper. It will be very interesting to see how they manage to get out of this situation in the next episode.
