Spy x Family Season 3 Has Been Great So Far

Article at a glance:
- Spy x Family Season 3 kicks off with its signature mix of humor, heart, and chaos, but this time, it brings a surprising emotional depth that adds new layers to the story.
- The season takes a step beyond the usual lighthearted antics, diving into themes of identity, purpose, and the past in ways the series hasn’t explored before.
- With standout storytelling and top-tier production, Season 3 proves that Spy x Family still has plenty of tricks, and emotions, up its sleeve.

I don’t know what I was expecting from Spy x Family Season 3, but a mature and heartfelt backstory for Loid definitely wasn’t in my BINGO card. Don’t get me wrong, though; it was a welcome addition. It gives us a lot of insight into Loid as a character and what kind of person he is beneath all the masks he puts on as a spy. I know I am kind of late with my first impressions article for Season 3, but I am glad that I decided to wait because Episodes 2 and 3 definitely shifted how I view the series overall.
So welcome back to another first impressions article. Today, we are talking about Spy x Family Season 3. I know it is a bit late for “first impressions,” but once again, I am glad that I decided to wait. I can’t believe I am about to do this for Spy x Family of all things, but spoiler warning. Please watch at least up to Season 3 Episode 3 before continuing. With all that out of the way, let’s get started.

What do I think of Spy x Family Season 3 so far?
The first episode was a pretty standard Spy x Family affair. Yes, it was entertaining. It is always entertaining to see Anya try to save the day in the best way she can. But nothing new there. The whole segment with Fiona and Franky was nice too. Their interactions were really good, and that is definitely a pairing I want to see more of in the future. Their characters just bounce off each other too well for this not to be a recurring duo. But yeah, the first episode was mostly just filler stuff.
The real meat and bones so far have been in Episodes 2 and 3. Episode 2 just starts off well, Anya ends up getting a Tonitrus trying to save Damien. That was a nice character moment for her. But that’s not the main attraction. The main star of Episodes 2 and 3 is Loid’s backstory. It shows how he lost his parents because of the war, and then later he lost friends too. The worst part being that, despite being a soldier, he never really knew the true reason for the war. He thought he could accomplish something if he joined the military, but he was wrong.

Another small detail I liked was that when Loid wakes up after dreaming about his past, he says, “Oh, I am at Loid’s house,” not “my house”. It’s a small thing, but it’s such a nice little detail showing that he sees himself and Loid Forger as two separate people. But yeah, the production has been top-tier. The presentation for Loid’s backstory was damn perfect, and I loved it.
That is all for now
Spy x Family delivering a mature and pretty dark backstory was not on my BINGO card, but trust me, it is well appreciated. It expands Loid’s character so much, it will be interesting to see what they do with all this information in the future. But yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
