Steins;Gate Re:boot Announced!

Article at a glance:
MAGES revealed a Re:boot of Steins;Gate during its 15th-anniversary event, with the Japanese release set for 2025, bringing updated visuals and new story content!
Alongside the announcement, a remastered teaser visual and a statement in the 15th-anniversary movie hinted at more Steins;Gate content, showing MAGES isn’t ready to let go of their most iconic VN just yet.
With visual novels like Tsukihime Reboot setting tricky release precedents, here’s hoping the Re:boot’s global release won’t be too drawn out—MAGES’ writing has always delivered, so I have no worries there.

Steins;Gate is the most successful VN developed by MAGES, by far so it should come as little surprise that it is their first VN to get the Re:boot treatment. S;G is the only MAGES VN with a good anime adaptation too. Even people who are not into VNs have at least heard of Steins;Gate or probably even watched its anime. That is how popular this series is. And it may not feel like it but it has been 15 years since the original VN came out. Yes, even though the worldwide release was in 2016, Steins;Gate was originally released in Japan in 2009.

So yeah, MAGES went ahead and announced a Re:boot for this iconic VN in the 15th-anniversary event. So welcome back to another news article. And today we are talking about Steins:Gate Re:boot. Now I know why all the MAGES VNs are on massive discounts on Steam right now lol. So let’s get started.

What do we know about Steins;Gate Re:boot?

As previously mentioned, MAGES announced the Re:boot at the 15th anniversary event of the VN. And it is coming out rather soon. The Re:boot is scheduled to be released sometime next year i.e. 2025. Of course, that will be the Japanese release date. I hope it doesn’t take the Re:boot 7 years to get the official worldwide release like it did with the original. But yeah, as with all VN reboots, this one will also feature new additions to the story along with improved visuals.

They revealed a “remastered” version of the original teaser visual along with the announcement. I have been told that the 15th-anniversary movie that started streaming on October 15th stated “Steins;Gate will continue”. I have not watched that movie myself but I am not surprised. Again, Steins;Gate is by far the most popular project MAGES has put out so I don’t see why they shouldn’t stick with it just a bit further. MAGES so far has never let us down when it comes to writing.

But yeah, that covers all the news so let’s move on to

My Thoughts

I already started going over my feelings on this Re:boot a bit in the news section lol. So let’s expand a bit on that. I really do hope that the global release of the Re:boot doesn’t take years. I don’t know why but it has always been like this with VNs. They have staggered platform releases and then further staggered global releases. I was recently talking about how complicated the release schedule of Tsukihime Reboot has been and I really hope that this doesn’t fall into the same rabbit hole again. It probably will but hey, never hurts being optimistic.

Now, of course, the main thing I am curious about are the rewrites. I think it is pretty likely that the story will be expanded to fit in better with the rest of the Science Adventure series and possibly even to include more Steins;Gate content. I trust MAGES, their writing has always been excellent and yeah, let’s see where this goes.

That is all for now!

So yeah, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. Steins;Gate Re:boot should be fun and we will see how it goes. Hopefully, it doesn’t take too long for an official global release lol. But yeah, I am off to do some chores. See ya!
