New Makoto Shinkai Movie Announced!

Makoto Shinkai is one of the most famous anime movie directors/producers of all time now. All of his movies are great and deserve the praise they get.Β His earlier movies like The Garden of Words were fairly successful but, Your Name pushed him into international popularity. It was after the release of Your Name that people actually started noticing and praising his older works more often. Now, everyone looks forward to a Makoto Shinkai release.
With the release of Weathering with You after Your Name, it is clear that Makoto Shinkai is trying to set up a sort of mini-universe in which his movies take place. He has now announced a new movie called “Suzume no Tojimari” or Suzume Locking up. Here are all the details announced for Suzume Locking up so far.

What do we know about Suzume Locking up?

Suzume Locking up was announced a few hours ago in the director’s new work press conference in Tokyo. The movie’s production and distribution company, Toho opened an official website for the movie immediately following the announcement. The website revealed a little bit of the plot, main staff, and a poster for the movie.
As for the plot, Suzume Locking up follows Suzume who finds a mysterious door. The door takes her to different parts of Japan at different times. The disasters come from the far side of the doors so, all doors must be locked. Hence, begins Suzumeβs door locking journey.
As for the staff, it has big names such as Masayoshi Tanaka, Kenichi Tsuchiya, etc. The biggest name is obviously Makoto Shinkaiβs. Like, he is so famous now that just his name is enough to make a movie successful. Suzume Locking up will be animated by CoMix Wave Films like all other Makoto Shinkai movies so we know what kind of animation quality we can expect.
Sadly, we donβt have a trailer yet but we will be sure to update you when we do see a trailer. Suzume Locking up will premiere in Japanese theatres in fall 2022. So we may not get to see the movie till 2023 but, thatβs fine. Better late than nothing.

Do I even need to say anything here? Suzume Locking up is being made by Makoto Shinkai and that alone is enough to make it a blockbuster. And it is not like Your Name was a fluke hit; Shinkai has been making really good movies for years now. Sure, Your Name is his most famous and arguably the best work but his other movies are really great as well.
Will Suzume Locking up manage to compete with Your Name? That is way too soon to say. We don’t even have a trailer yet. I will say this though; the plot looks interesting and is sort of unique in its own way. The plot has a lot of potentials if expanded upon well.
