Ok, so I have been click baited by this anime’s title way too many times now. I mean at first glance it looks extremely similar to TenSura’s full title. I didn’t plan on watching Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita at first but, it was doing pretty well on weekly rankings. And some people told me good things about it so I decided to check it out.
So welcome to another of my mid-season reviews. This was supposed to be a “first impressions” article but since episode 5 is out, a mid-season review is more fitting. And we are talking about Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita today. And you know, I have to say it went a pretty funny route with the isekai genre. I don’t really think we’ve seen something like this before. So let’s get into it.
What do I think about the anime so far?
Well, to start off I was genuinely worried when I saw a loli protag. You should probably know why, loli protags scare me sometimes. But to my surprise, the anime is surprisingly wholesome. Fran is quite adorable in her mannerisms as well. Her backstory though really stings. I am actually glad to see that it’s not just the sword that grows stronger. Fran gets her share of character development as well and everything is gradual, one step at a time.
So what about the titular sword? The anime is named after him, Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita. Let me start off by saying, what an interesting idea. We’ve seen reincarnation as OP guy a lot at this point, we have at least one show like that every season. But as a sword? As a foooking sword? Now that is very interesting and entertaining to watch. Of course, Shishou can’t really speak since he is a sword, he can’t even move if he doesn’t have magic. The only way he can communicate with others is when they’re touching him, through telepathy.
And man, I have to say Shishou is quite an entertaining character. His sense as a sword is really strong, the guy went out of his way to hunt monsters and acquire skills so that he can make his wielder’s life easier lol. I like how his and Fran’s relationship has developed over the course of 5 episodes. No weirdness, just pure wholesomeness. That’s what I like to see.
Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita is easily deserving of an 8/10 from me. This is not my final rating, of course, I’ll wait for the anime to finish before giving it my final rating. It is not a perfect anime but I am having fun watching it so hard to complain about that.
Well, that will be all for now. Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita has a pretty interesting concept and so far its execution is looking pretty good. I know many people are burnt out on isekais these days but I personally like seeing them. It is fun to see what kind of stuff different anime do with different isekais tropes. Let me know what you guys think in the comments though, I’ll take my leave here. See ya!!
