TenSura Season 4 Episode 16 Review: Granville’s Fall Was Well Done

At a glance:

• Granville’s backstory hits way harder than expected, turning him into one of Season 4’s most compelling villains
• His “grief twisted into a mission” arc gives real depth to why he’s teamed up with Yuuki
• Luminous’ mystery girl is still locked away, and the wait is getting real

TenSura Season 4 continues to surprise me. It is such a step up from Season 3. Season 3 had a lot of interesting plot lines for sure, but every single episode just had a meeting thrown in there for some reason. It just felt way longer than it should have. I know Season 4 started a little slow too; I complained about that in my initial articles 3-4 months ago. But it has improved considerably since then. I wanted to do another episode review for TenSura Season 4 for a while now, and Episode 16 feels like the perfect spot to do it.

We’re knee-deep in the current arc; we’re right at the peak of the rollercoaster. Of course, there will be spoilers ahead since I will be talking about the recent episodes. With all that said, though, let’s just get started.

My Thoughts on Granville’s Backstory

Imma be honest, I found it pretty interesting. Granville was clearly someone who used to see the good in people. He even teamed up with a Demon Lord in Luminous Valentine because he understood she wanted to coexist with humans. But then, because of a demon and a greedy minister, he ended up losing his wife. And then, because of his grief, he interpreted Maria’s dying words as a wish to create a world where only humans exist. It is such an interesting, dark twist on the desires he started with.

Mariabelle was an interesting villain as is; I didn’t expect Granville to get so much backstory. I have to say, he is starting to become a lot more interesting of a character than his granddaughter was. His dynamic with Yuuki is also interesting. Sure, for now they share the same goal, but both of them know that the other person is just using them. They continue to collaborate anyway because it benefits both of them for the time being.

Very curious to see who this “ultimate weapon” is that Luminous is keeping locked up. She’s been teased for ages at this point. Hopefully, this arc will finally reveal who the girl is lucky enough to see Luminous naked all the time, even if it is from inside a frozen block.

Either way, Season 4 has been amazing so far. That 2nd opening theme is just so damn good. The animation work has been pretty good overall too. So I really look forward to seeing more of this. And well, it will be interesting to see how things conclude after all this.

Wrapping Up

Well, let me know what you guys think in the comments. TenSura Season 4 has been genuinely great so far, as you may have gathered from this review, and Episode 16 did a great job of establishing both Granville and Yuuki as good villains. But yeah, with that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
