TenSura: Visions of Coleus was Short and Sweet

Key points for Visions of Coleus review:

  • The OVA excels in setting up anticipation for Season 3 by introducing key characters like Luminous Valentine and teasing the significance of the Primordial Yellow and Violet, adding depth to the overall narrative.
  • While the original characters in the OVA may have limited development, the interactions and revelations about established characters, such as Rimuru’s undercover moments, contribute to the overall enjoyment of the storyline.
  • The animation and soundtracks maintain the high standards expected from the series, with well-executed character designs, engaging abilities, and the inclusion of quality opening and ending themes, enhancing the viewing experience.

So the TenSura OVA dropped yesterday and I just checked it out. This OVA is based on an original story by the LN author, Fuse. It takes place between Seasons 1 and 2 and fittingly was supplied with the Blu-ray disks for the series. Visions of Coleus is a short and simple OVA that teases future plot points and characters that will become important in Season 3.

There are some things I like and some things I don’t like about this OVA. I did enjoy my time with it though cause being an OVA, it is just 3 episodes long. So it doesn’t overstay its welcome or anything.

So welcome back to another one of my reviews. Probably my first OVA review ever and today we are talking about TenSura: Visions of Coleus. Let’s get started.

Plot

Look, I’ll be honest here, the plot of the OVA itself, dealing with the power struggle in Coleus is kinda meh. It had some plot twists here and there but overall, it was a pretty simple story and even the execution wasn’t anything too mind-blowing. The plot twists themselves were somewhat predictable too. I stillΒ enjoyed the OVA though. Now, you may ask why is that? That is because it did a great job of teasing characters that will be important in the near future like Luminous Valentine and the Primordial Yellow and Violet.

Luminous Valentine will be very important in the next season so it is good to have a little teaser for her in this OVA. We get a glimpse of her strength, personality, and motivation too. The Yellow and Violet are only seen for a few seconds but again we get a tease of what is coming in their dialog.

Characters

Now, unfortunately, pretty much all the characters original to this OVA have NPC energy. Which is understandable since they didn’t even have much time to expand on them. They serve their purpose in the plot and none of them are downright bad or anything. Just unremarkable for the most part. I already talked about the important characters in the Plot section so I will not bring them up here again. But it was fun to see Rimuru revert to his past life form and personality for a while when he was undercover LOL.

Animations and Soundtracks

The animations were pretty much what we have come to expect from the series at this point. Cool character designs, good art, good-looking abilities, decent fights, etc. all that good stuff. I am happy that they gave an opening and ending theme to this OVA though because both songs were great.

Summing up!

So here are my final ratings for Visions of Coleus:

  • Plot – 7/10
  • Characters – 7/10
  • Animations – 8/10
  • Soundtracks – 8/10
  • Enjoyment – 7/10
  • Future Teases: 10/10
  • Overall – 7/10

So those were my thoughts on Visions of Coleus. It wasn’t bad or boring or anything like that, just unremarkable overall if I put aside the future teases. Still a good watch if you are a fan of the series though. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
