That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 Episode 7 Was Interesting

Article at a glance:

  • After a bit too much goofing around, the last three episodes finally bring back what the series does best, deep world-building and sharp political maneuvering.
  • Mariabell Rozzo is proving to be a compelling villain driven by a fascinating mix of human greed and an inferiority complex toward Demon Lords, even if the twist with Yuuki is a bit questionable.
  • While the Council drama and political twists are highly entertaining, the story is starting to stumble over repetitive tropes, namely, smart characters still underestimating a member of the Octagram and villains flipping to allies just a bit too easily.

So things are finally progressing. In my last article on Slime Season 4, I complained about Rimuru goofing around too much despite so much important stuff going on. And while that complaint hasn’t completely gone away, I will say that the recent 3 episodes have been really good. Because these episodes represent what TenSura excels at: political maneuvering and world-building. I am only using Episode 7 as an excuse to talk about That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 overall so far lol. SEO and all that, you get it. Either way, this season so far has been an interesting blend of goofing around and a bunch of interesting plot threads.

Welcome back to another article on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4, and I really want to talk about the recent 3 episodes, including Episode 7. There will be spoilers ahead, so only continue if you don’t mind. So let’s start!

My Thoughts on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 So Far

I know I said this in the last article, too, but Mariabell Rozzo is a really good villain so far. I am not sure how I feel about the twist of Yuuki being under her control since the beginning. It takes away from how charming evil Yuuki is. But aside from that, she has been pretty good as a villain. She has a reason to hate a demon lord, even if it eventually boils down to just greed. But there’s something compelling about a human feeling inferior to a Demon Lord and wanting to root out the problem before it gets too big.

The council scenes throughout Episodes 5 and 6 were decently done, too. Yes, it was yet another meeting. But at least it was full of twists and not just a boring, long conversation. Rimuru snapping despite his best efforts to stay calm also made sense since the controlled members of the Council were literally trying to slime (no pun intended) Tempest and treat them as slave labor. That said, I do think I am kinda over the whole everyone underestimating Rimuru thing. It was fine in the earlier parts of the story. Now, though, that he’s a member of the Octagram, it literally does not make sense for people to still underestimate him. Even supposedly smart characters underestimate him.

That is one major issue. There are a few other cliches that the story sticks to a little bit too much for my liking. For example, former “villains” just agreeing to work with Rimuru because their fight was only over a misunderstanding, or they were being controlled, or something. This happened with Glenda in Episode 7. Really wish we could avoid these repeating cliches. Because aside from all that, all the political stuff in the story has been very interesting. If we continue to stick to that, we should have a pretty good season overall.

That is all for now

Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Those were my thoughts on Slime Season 4 so far. Pretty decent season, I have to say. But yeah, with that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
